I Need My Best Friend – Part 13

We still have much to work through and hard decisions to make.  I promised you that when the time came we would make these decisions together.  I made a promise that was unrealistic in hoping that when the time came we would want the same things, making the decisions easy.  I’m still wavering between my wants and my fears and I know you’ve wondered if we should just let go.  I’m urging you to wait until we can make these decisions together.

I’d like to ask for a favor.  We need to make one of these decisions before our appointment next Tuesday, so I’d like to ask that we make it together, Monday night.  So once you return I’d like to take those few days and just enjoy the time together.  I know we will both continue to think about the things to come, but I’d like to take a step back and remember when we cherished the time we had together, when nothing and no one could come between us.  Please indulge me.

Bette read the note again; gently tracing the lettering with her fingertips, imagining the way Tina bites her lower lip when she writes.

‘Indulge you?  I’d give you anything if you’d just let me back in.’

She got ready for bed wondering if she should still wake Tina.  This must have been her question.  She wondered what Tina hoped this time would accomplish.  Was she expected to use this time to win Tina back, was it meant to replace the memory of that night just in case things did end between them or was it just a way to spend a little carefree time together after the intensity of the past few weeks.  She would just have to wait and see.  She needed to let Tina set the tone, especially after her talk with Alice.

Bette eased into bed beside Tina and gently nudged her shoulder.

    ‘Tina, wake up.’

    ‘Bette?  What time is it?’

‘Very late, there was fog.  We can talk tomorrow, go back to sleep.  I’m sorry I woke you.’

‘Did you see the note I left for you?’

    ‘Yes.’

‘Do you need some time to think about it?’

‘I don’t need to think about it.  It sounds wonderful; I’d love to spend the time with you.  I’m so glad you thought of it.’

‘I want us to be able to relax and not be so cautious with each other.  If something comes up we’ll talk about it and then get back to just spending time together.  We have to finish the last minute things tomorrow for the kids show on Saturday and then we can do whatever we want.’

‘Sounds wonderful, I’ve been a little worried about the next few days.’

‘No more worrying, no more pressure, Monday night I’ll cook you’re favorite meal and we’ll decide if we’re ready to continue with Foxworthy or if we tell him we’re going to take a little more time.’

Tina softly kissed Bette and said, ‘Will you hold me?’

    ‘I am holding you T.’

‘I’m laying in your arms, but I want you to relax and hold me Bette.’

Moments later they were sound asleep.

    1. I’m honestly getting a bit worried here…but let me say this was one wonderfully written chapter…intense, loving, sad, beautiful…very well done girl!!!

    2. As Bette said, “what we’re going through right now is intensely personal” Alice asks too many prying questions and Tina should draw the line and not answer them. But you need to do the exposition…
      Thanks

    3. Alice gave her{Tina} something to think, that if they didn’t go back together, would Bette LA. I know if it was me,my old shirt wouldn’t hit me in the butt and I would be gone,.Could stand to see the LOML with someone else. Tina seen to want her cake {others} and to keep Bette in her life at any cost. Wonderful chapter

    4. Thanks so much for the long chapters. It really allows us to get totally caught up in the story…and such a wonderful story it is. I understand Tina’s fear…but her going back and forth is starting to worry me. Thanks!

    5. As_always Great!! I love that you post the two chaps together, you get more into it, It was deep, it feels like if Tina need a little experimenting just to be sure, in spite she said she didn’t want to date other people, dunno… great writing!!

my favorite part thou, Tina putting Alice in her place, gish she even kick her!!
quote: I may know some things about Bette that you don’t. (lol, duh!!) :D

    6. great chapter — Tina’s tentativeness is palpable – and understandable – wants and fears are all mixed but Bette’s growth and calmness is helping the situation – there shouldn’t be ultimatums – I don’t think that Foxworthy should force them into any decisions – it is the direction that counts and their communication is improving – again, thanks for the enjoyable, truthful chapter..

    7. You touch my heart when I read this story, it seems so real, I loved the letter from Tina it was so sweet, and right now Bette and Tina need that time together, but you can’t break them up.
