I Need My Best Friend – Part 13
‘What?’
‘Waiting to go on trial, hoping for a plea bargain or an acquittal, that you don’t deserve, at the very least a sentence you can live with, knowing full well you deserve to get the chair.’
‘Bette!’
‘I’m serious Tina, I’m really scared.’
Of course the waiter chose that moment to serve them. Bette turned away, but not before Tina saw the tears and reached for her hand.
Once the waiter left Tina turned Bette’s face back toward her, wiped the tears away, softly kissed her, smiled and said, ‘You forgot life without parole.’
‘If it’s life with you I’ll take it.’
‘There’s still a lot for us to consider and there’s no way this is going to be resolved before your flight, so what if we wait and have this discussion when you get back. That way we both have a few days to get our thoughts together and we can talk everything through. Is that all right with you?’
‘Yes, thanks.’
‘Let’s enjoy lunch.’
* * * * *
They had finished lunch and were on their way to the airport.
‘I left the hotel and flight information for you.’
‘I saw it, thanks. Would you mind if I spent some time at the house while you’re gone?’
‘You know you don’t have to ask.’
‘Funny, when we were together I hated it there when you were gone. It always seemed so empty.’
‘It can feel very empty. Well, here we are.’
Bette got out to get her luggage.
‘I still can’t believe you’re leaving me your car.’
‘It’s just a car.’
Bette laughed and handed Tina the keys.
‘Well, I’ll see you Friday.’
‘I could still pick you up.’
‘I won’t be in until after midnight, I’d worry about you out here so late.’
‘Okay. Bette?’
Tina threw her arms around Bette and held her tight.
‘I’ll miss you.’
‘I’ll miss you too T.’
Bette kissed her on the cheek and started to break the embrace but Tina was still holding on.
Bette laughed, ‘T, you have to let go.’

Gentle and tender, no rushing. Both of them need that. Without added drama, everything is dramatic already. Well done. I love this series!
How would Bette indulge Tina? Hmmm, Does making love like no tomorrow count?
I’m honestly getting a bit worried here…but let me say this was one wonderfully written chapter…intense, loving, sad, beautiful…very well done girl!!!
As Bette said, “what we’re going through right now is intensely personal” Alice asks too many prying questions and Tina should draw the line and not answer them. But you need to do the exposition…
Thanks
What a beautiful not from Tina!! You touched my heart. I can’t wait to read the next chapter.
Alice gave her{Tina} something to think, that if they didn’t go back together, would Bette LA. I know if it was me,my old shirt wouldn’t hit me in the butt and I would be gone,.Could stand to see the LOML with someone else. Tina seen to want her cake {others} and to keep Bette in her life at any cost. Wonderful chapter
I am getting worried too, please dont break them up
You put so much into this chapter. I hope B&T find their way. Remarkable writing.
Thanks so much for the long chapters. It really allows us to get totally caught up in the story…and such a wonderful story it is. I understand Tina’s fear…but her going back and forth is starting to worry me. Thanks!
As_always Great!! I love that you post the two chaps together, you get more into it, It was deep, it feels like if Tina need a little experimenting just to be sure, in spite she said she didn’t want to date other people, dunno… great writing!!
my favorite part thou, Tina putting Alice in her place, gish she even kick her!!
quote: I may know some things about Bette that you don’t. (lol, duh!!) :D
you have had some great moments but this was the best. Thanks for taking the time.
I agree very well written and very intense.. Sorry I can’t always comment it’s hard at work.. But please continue this is an excellent story…
This was a great chapter–I love the dialogue and Tina’s heart-aching ambivalence. Thanks so much!
great chapter — Tina’s tentativeness is palpable – and understandable – wants and fears are all mixed but Bette’s growth and calmness is helping the situation – there shouldn’t be ultimatums – I don’t think that Foxworthy should force them into any decisions – it is the direction that counts and their communication is improving – again, thanks for the enjoyable, truthful chapter..
You touch my heart when I read this story, it seems so real, I loved the letter from Tina it was so sweet, and right now Bette and Tina need that time together, but you can’t break them up.
