    I Need You Here – 7

"Franklin. Hi, it’s Tina Kennard. Bette can’t come to work." Tina held up a hand to Bette to stop her protests. "I know, and I’ve told James what to do."

Bette watched as a look of pure fury crossed Tina’s features. Franklin was in trouble now.

"Listen, you *****, her father just died. I think your precious arts center can survive a few days without her." Tina snapped. "If you seriously think anyone should work even before the funeral, you’re in for some serious ***** disappointment."

    Pause.

"Well, good. And I sincerely hope that your children go to work when you’re at home dying." Tina ended the call, and with a big smile, handed the phone back to Bette. "You have two weeks off."

    "Why did you do that?"

"Because work should be the last thing on your mind." Tina replied gaily. "You want to go to the beach?"

"Now?" Bette was now officially confused.

"Bear with me here. I’ve been in New York. Beaches require careful planning and days off." Tina made her way to the fridge, and opened it, stepping back at the smell. "Good God, Porter, what are you keeping in here? Your twelfth grade science project?"

"There must be some stale takeout," Bette said lamely.

Tina pulled out a plastic container that housed green fuzzy material. "I’d give this an A minus."

"Only an A minus?" Bette demanded.

"Okay fine. That should at least warrant an A, given proper documentation." Tina retorted, then tossed a paperbag at her. "Get rid of this."

Bette opened the paper bag, and recoiled. "Jesus ***** Christ, what is this?"

"I don’t know, so you’re gonna have to get rid of it."

Bette paused, and watched Tina. She narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "What are you doing?"

Tina paused. "I’m cleaning out your fridge. What does it look like I’m doing?"

"I think you’re avoiding talking about why you crept out of the house this morning and come back like nothing happened." Bette theorized.

"Well," Tina stalled. "Do you really want to know?"

"Yes." Bette nodded. "Yes, Tina. I would like to know why after last night, after I asked you to stay here instead of a hotel, you would agree to spend the night only to have me wake up and find you nowhere in the house. I would like to know why you would feel that you need to sneak out of the house. Did you really think you could just sneak back in, or were you going to suddenly just show up like… well, like what you’re doing."

    1. I rather enjoy Tina being strong for Bette. Bette allowing herself to feel her loss. I’m still waiting for her to really lose it tho. Mini break down between her father’s death and Tina. hmmmm…

    2. yeah just wait soon it will be Bette having to be the one carring the baby, and a stay at home mom. Good for tina show bette how it feels to live with someone like that

    3. Bette gets a taste of her own medicine. The only difference is that the sledgehammer is in a velvet glove – named Tina!
