I Will Follow You Into The Dark – Chapter One

Fiona had understood her passion for art, how art could make her cry just by being there, in front of her eyes. Billy used to mock around about it, he thought Bette was a bit of a weird one. But he liked it, that she was weird, not regular. He had no idea how she had felt the last time, as she had put on a mask for all the time with Fiona.

Outside, the sky began clearing up. She didn’t feel like going to school that day and decided to call sick. The school would still be there the following day. The tears were brimming in her eyes, Fiona. Fiona, Fiona, Fiona. It had become a mantra going through her head over and over again. She remembered Fiona’s arrival, how they had met, their first kiss, the first time they had slept with each other. It was so different than with Billy, it was so much better. The first time with Fiona had felt like coming home.

Bette sits on the grass in front of the school. She’s smoking her morning cigarette before entering the school. She checks her watch, she has a few minutes left. She sighs at the thought of another boring day at school again when a car draws her attention.
An old, dirty car drives by, very close to Bette. She stands up to see who’s in it. It feels like her heart skips a beat when the driver looks her right into her eyes.
Behind the steering wheel, there’s a beautiful girl with green eyes and long, red hair.

    “We gotta go, babe.”
“Jesus, Billy! Don’t scare me like that!” Bette shouted. Billy has the bad habit of always scaring the shit out of her, it can make her so angry.
“Calm down, hun. Classes start any second, we wouldn’t want to miss that, right?” Billy says sarcastically. She knows what’s coming next.
“Can’t we skip school today? I’ll have my friends backing us up.”
Exactly. It’s the same every day. Mostly, she feels like saying yes, but she needs to see more of the mystery driver.

“Not today, Billy,” she replies after a while. “Go ahead, okay? I’ll be right behind, I think I left something in the car.”
“Shall I get it for you?” Billy already takes his car keys out. He always drives her to school, ever since he has his driving licence.
“No, just give me the keys. I’ll give them back during the break.”
“Fine.” Billy raises an eyebrow. He knew Bette was a bit odd, but today she’s worrying him.
“See you at my locker, hun.” He gives her a kiss and Bette returns it as the redhead walks by.
‘Shit,’ Bette thinks to herself. She has no idea why, but it seems like she ruins something, a moment. She pulls herself out of the kiss and gets to the school building.
“Hey, didn’t you say you forgot something?”

    1. Okay…quite an interesting start for sure. It looks like Bette is with a boy and trying to avoid that inner voice that is screaming for her to embrace the needs she holds within. Love the conversation with Kit. LOL!! Sister! *shaking head* Good stuff. Will take a look at the next ones and comment on the last chapter you posted. Thanks so much for bringing this story here. Be back later…
