“MaBe, are you okay? Your knuckles are turning white.”

Dani put her hand up and covered her mouth, not wanting her step-mother to see her smile. She couldn’t help it, she had purposely chosen this time to talk to MaBe about having *****, because she knew that by having this conversation in a moving car, it would limit how Bette could react to her step-daughter’s questions.

On the other side of the car, Bette’s mind was reeling. ‘Why is she asking me about this?’ Tina’s the one that they had designated to have these conversations with their children. Tina’s the one who has prepared herself to answer any questions about *****…questions that were bound to come up, as their children got older. So why was her partner’s oldest daughter, sitting there staring at her, asking her these questions…and why is she asking them while she was driving?!

“Huh…so…I’m sorry Dani…what did you ask me?” Bette could feel the heat radiating off of her skin, the color rising in her cheeks, could feel the ache in her fingers from gripping the steering wheel so tight.

Dani tried not to laugh at the look on MaBe’s face. She knew she was uncomfortable, but so was Dani…well, a little bit anyway. That’s one of the reasons she wanted to do this here, in the car…so neither one of them had to look each other in the eye. But, uncomfortable or not, Dani wanted some answers, and even though she wanted to talk to her mother about this, she wanted to test the waters with MaBe first. Hopefully she would get a better idea of how her mother would react to her wanting to be sexually active, by how the more conservative of her mothers answered her questions…if she answered them.

“I asked how you knew when it was the right time to have ***** with someone?”

‘Yep.’ That’s what Bette thought she had heard. ‘Oh God’, she inwardly groaned. ‘I don’t want to answer that…do I have to? Can’t I just turn up the radio and keep driving? We’re only about fifteen minutes from the house…*****, I can hold out for fifteen minutes…I could…Oh God…’

Dani patiently waited, as she watched the different expressions of both horror and panic cross MaBe’s beautiful, but clearly stressed out face. Dani almost felt sorry for asking her now, but realized it was too late to take it back. How was she supposed to know that the older woman would be this uncomfortable with the subject of *****? She was so open emotionally in other ways. They shared a wonderful, loving relationship, and Dani felt as close to Bette Porter, as she did to her birth mother. Adults really were strange creatures. They should teach classes in school on how to communicate with, and understand the inner workings of the adult human brain.

    3. I am so glad you are revisiting this story. I never tire of reading it. Please continue to update it. I wholeheartedly agree with your views on fate. I know that is how I found my wife. Yes, we must work hard to make the things that we want in life happen but I think that fate(predestination) is the trump card or an ultimate controlling factor.

    4. There are shoes, sweaters, and PJ’s that always feel good and welcoming. I hope returning to this story is the welcome you need to keep inspiring you to share your stories.

    5. *Blink, blink* Shakes head…am I dreaming?! A chapter of If It’s Meant To Be???? I…am…in…heaven.

Seahurst, this story is like a favorite blanket – I just want to sink down and wrap myself in it, getting that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from something so special. The worst of days are made better when I see a new chapter from this series.

Great story as always. You weave the tale of this family so skillfully. I cannot wait to see how Bette answers Dani’s question…or how Tina is going to approach this subject. Is Dani just curious, or taking after her mother’s? Either way, I will be anxiously waiting another chapter. If this relieves your writer’s block, could we be so lucky to have two series going at the same time??? Ah, now that would be fate indeed.

    6. YOU WROTE!!! AHHHHHH!!!! My eyes practically popped out of my head when I saw your name, Sea!! Thank you for making my day! :)

I too believe in fate. What you said was beautiful. JB’s story amazes me. I’m so glad that she let her husband sleep in that day.

Excellent chapter. It’s wonderful to revisit these characters. I can’t wait to see how Bette handles this!!

*Leaves you a set of boxing gloves to fight off that pesky writer’s block*

    9. Oh wow…what an ending, does “gulp” even begin to describe it? I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter. I was so happy to find a post from you and a ch. to one of my fave series no less. I was smiling throughout the entire chapter. The part where Bette just wants to turn up the radio and hold out for 15 min just had me laughing. Great chapter, Seahurst and glad you are back! Can’t wait to find another post from you.

    10. amazing Sea… and the ‘gulp’ let me waiting impatiently for more!!!!

And as you said I do really believe in fate… when things are suppose to happen they do and you can’t take it, change it… you just go with the flow and try to live with what is left of it and sometimes you learn to appreciate it, to keep fighting… some days are harder than others but you keep moving, and crying and missing a lot…

    11. I have finally finished all or your chapters and every story. You are an amazing writer and love this story but I also enjoyed the others. 28. Seahurst, I have been reading on this forum practically since it started and have NEVER commented before. I can’t describe how excited I was to see another installment of “IF it was meant to be” this morning. I love all your writing but this story pulled me in from the beginning. I felt compelled to leave a comment telling you this and urge you to continue on with the story (and maybe give us some info on what went on in the 13 years before the current time frame). Thanks for all your hard work on these stories!

    29. Seahurst, thank you for that quote from JB, I know what you mean when you said it brought you to tears, ’cause most of whatever comes out of her mouth brings me to tears ( mere words cannot express the energies that radiate from such a wonderful, soul). And your story was just wonderful, SO I THANK YOU FOR THESE TWO GIFTS YU HAVE GIVEN ME HERE TODAY.

    30. I can’t add to what others have said because it’s all been said – so I’ll reiterate what others have said. I am SO glad you’re back with this story. It’s my favorite. I’m really excited to see you back.

    31. (aka “self-proclaimed president of the Seahurst fan club”); welcome back…clearly we ALL have missed you. and, as always, incredibly well-written. Thank you.

    32. God Seahurst, nothing like a loyal following!! You are the queen of fan fic. Nice update. Please up date more. I hope this gives you encouragement to keeping writing. We love you.

    33. Welcome Home Sea!!!!! You know what you’ve started, right? You’ve set up our parched, Seahurst-thirsty minds to receive new drops of this magnificently crafted set of characters. I am so happy that you have posted and I am so glad you pushed that ole writers block away. This was really good. I like the fast forwarding and how Bette and Dani’s relationship has developed over time. Little Dani all grown up and thinking about batting for the pink team. Can’t wait to see how Bette reacts to this. Thanks for a great post, Sea! =)

    34. i am an avid reader, but a lazy commenter, but i have to tell you how great it was to see your name back with a new post!!i can’t wait for whatever ride you wind up taking us on!!

    35. Up until a few days ago I had not read any of your stories. I was so intrigued when I read this chapter that I went back and read the entire series over the last two days and I must say that your writing is incredible. I was moved to tears more than once. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. Also thank you for sharing the Jennifer Beals quote…very moving.

    36. You move into this so gracefully and I am just in awe of how well you wear these characters. I loved your quote at the beginning. I too believe in fate and I think we are all here to learn lessons and well you are helping me learn these lessons. Thanks for this wonderful story that you tell so well.

    37. Yes this story is back I was hoping there was an update to all this, I’m so excited..but not stunned that Dan is a lesbian I mean she clearly had a huge crush on Bette
