“I really don’t know.” Tina responded, clinking her tumbler against Helena’s vodka martini before swallowing another mouthful of the liquid and feeling it burn on the way down. “I thought we were fine, I thought we were working on things but then we had one little fight…actually it wasn’t even really a fight, it was more of a disagreement and then she’s dating Abby again and somehow forgot to mention it.”
“She’s what?” Helena questioned in disbelief before reigning in her shock at just how stupid Bette Porter could really be on occasion. “Ok, this fight, what was it about?”
“She wanted to have sex and I said no.” Tina said flatly before taking another sip from her glass.
Helena frowned and blinked a couple of times before asking the obvious, “And why would you say no to Bette?”
“Because she insisted that we should take things slow, that she didn’t want to jump back into a physical relationship too quickly.” Tina defended her actions.
“I see” Helena replied with a heavy sigh.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Tina enquired as she looked up at Helena who suddenly seemed to take a keen interest in her martini.
“Tina, when it comes to women, you’re clearly attracted to a certain type and I think we safely established that Bette and I are somewhat cut from the same cloth.” Helena explained in a round about kind of way. “I’m sure that Bette meant it when she told you she wanted to take it slow. However, I don’t think she was intending for you to hold her accountable.”
“Are you implying that this is my own fault?” Tina questioned.
“No, I just think that Bette needs you to be her lover not her mother.”
Tina winced at the remark but offered nothing in return, instead, she finished off her drink in one fell swoop before placing the empty glass on the bar and moving to gather her things.
“Thanks for the drink, Helena.” Tina said curtly.
“Tina, wait!” Helena pleaded, as she reached out and took hold of Tina’s wrist. “I didn’t mean to upset you, I just…”
“I can’t do this right now.” Tina said quietly as tears welled in her eyes, “I thought I had her back, I thought we were going to be alright this time. I can’t sit here and listen to you telling me how I fucked it up.”
“Tina, please!” Helena persisted, “If there’s one thing I know, it’s that Bette Porter loves you.”
“Unfortunately she doesn’t seem to know that right now.” Tina replied as she willed the tears from falling.
“She may be a complete ass at times but she has always loved you.”
“Yeah, well, it’d be nice if she’d finally grow up and stop chasing any cute piece of ass that happened to smile at her.”
“Come on now, you know that’s not fair. She was miserable for months after you left her for Henry.”
Tina’s shoulders dropped at the remark, she couldn’t deny her own failings. She reluctantly slid back onto the bar stool. Returning to her empty apartment wasn’t exactly an appealing thought at any rate.
“She wanted you back, Tina.” Helena assured the blonde quietly, “I think she finally convinced herself it wasn’t going to happen and Abby was just…there.”
“I don’t know if I can do this again.” Tina said, her eyes focused on the bar counter as she shook her head, “The thought of losing her again, it’s unbearable.”
“Then you need to fight for her.” Helena replied steadfastly, “I’m willing to wager that Bette is seeing Abby as the easy option. They have fun, it’s not serious, there’s no commitment. Then there’s what you two share which is infinitely more than Abby could ever hope to give Bette.”
“Infinitely more responsibility too, maybe it’s not what she wants anymore.” Tina pointed out before biting her lip in a further attempt to keep the tears at bay.
“From what I’ve seen and heard, you and Bette share something that so few of us actually find and if, by chance we do, we inevitably stuff it up. Tina, don’t let her stuff this up for you both.”
“I’m not sure that it’s up to me, Bette has to want it to.”
“That’s very true.” Helena conceded quietly before both women fell silent, each seemingly consumed with their own thoughts.

HG I was reading this story awhile ago and then saw it again and just got caught up. Wow, the drama. You just get elated when Abby breaks it off with Bette and Bette and Tina start moving forward, when all of a sudden the world shatters again and Abby’s back and Bette seems taken with her again. Crap, I hope you update again soon, because I am totally hanging here!
i was almost scared to read this chapter…i’m glad Helena is there for Tina and telling her to fight for Bette, i don’t want Tina to give up, but they are right, it’s up to Bette now to choose once and for all…please, let her make a right choice
Hoping the time until the ‘next page is turned’ isn’t too long. I can’t wait to read what’s next. Thanks.
Wow, Helena really seems to have the situation pegged. I do hope that Bette isn’t seriously considering “dating” Abby and that Tina has things blown up. Though last that we saw Bette I was nervous about her ability to make the right decision. You definitely know how to keep us on the edge of our seats.
Wise words from Hels there. I hope Tina takes something from that chat. Meanwhile, back at the ranch… I’m dreading the choice Bette might make, and really hoping she thinks it all the way through before she acts, whatever the decision she makes. thanks for post, HG.
Howmuch time has passed between the last update (bette making a move on Abby by the seaside) and this one? Are Abby and Bette “dating” or was that just a one off? And how did Tina find out about the two of them “dating”? Questions, questions. (A couple of typos that were surprising coming from you, Hack. But still a wonderful story. Thanks.)
So happy to get this recent update from you. Can’t wait for more. I enjoy reading your work b/c it is interesting, intelligently written and adult. And fun too. I really enjoy longer chapters but more frequent posts is a bonus as well.

One thing I know, Tina can’t make Bette’s choices for her. Bette has to take and be responsible for her own actions with Abby. I’d like to see Bette actually live up to her words about loving Tina, and going slow. Thanks for writing, HG!
HG, you rille me up, I guess thats what good writers do. I don’t think Tina should have to bear the burden of Hel’s words, she has put herself out there more than once, flaws, uncertinties and all. I think it’s time Bette steped up to the plate. Thank you, Md
