If You Never Say Anything to Me ch. 25
This was why I always go to Mom to talk. She makes me think while at the same time, makes me feel that my decisions are not wrong. I love who she is and who she allows me to be. We chatted for a few more minutes before we disconnected and I placed a call to Eric. He didn’t answer so I left him a message that all was going well and asked him if we could meet for lunch in the next few days. I really wanted to talk to him and hoped that our friendship continued in the manner that it was going. I loved him too as the person he was and the person he allowed me to be. He always supported me and in talking to Bette, I had no doubts that the two of them would like one another. At least I hoped that they did and neither let their involvement with me cloud the fact that they were not too different from one another in their likes and their thoughts.
I called Jacob Listner since he had left a couple of messages. I had to leave him one too letting him know that I was interested in more information about the symposium that he was arranging. I was becoming more and more focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and because so many war veterans were returning with symptoms, more emphasis was being placed on its study. I pulled out my computer and searched for his name so I could have a little information when he called me back and was impressed with what I read. He was pretty impressive with the articles he had written and the talks that he had held on the subject. It was such an incredible feeling to know that somehow, my name had reached him. I only hoped that the scheduling would work out.
For the rest of the day I did things around the house and went grocery shopping. Most of the time, my thoughts were of Bette. When I was out shopping, I made a conscious effort to pay attention to women who were around me…something I had never done before. It was interesting. I could tell some were couples by the relaxed ways that had with one another. Some were haggard and hurried trying to finish and move on to their next task. In all the women that I saw, not one evoked any of the feelings that Bette was able to. There was no way that I would be able to date anyone else while dating her. The feelings were just too deep for me to ignore and try to meet new people. It was something that I probably needed to have a talk with Bette about. I didn’t want to get my feelings hurt if she was just looking for something casual while I was looking for a relationship. I believed us to be on the same page but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to confirm that.
By the time I got back home, I had just enough time to shower and change before Bette arrived for us to go to dinner. She was of course beautiful as she stood at the door. The flowers that she had in her hands were so unexpected yet so welcomed. They were a beautiful arrangement of ones, she explained, that she had picked from her yard. I invited her in, took the flowers and went to look for a vase. I had not received many flowers in my time and treasured these as I took time to arrange them. She came up behind me, wrapping her arms around me and kissing my neck. Dinner was a quickly fleeting thought as I sank into her and let her hold me. I had no doubts in my mind. I was hopelessly falling in love with this woman and only prayed that she too felt it.
