Chapter 49

Half an hour later Sean enters with Alice and Dana close behind.

Bette is still sitting with Angelica.

How is she? Sean asks as she walks over to Bette. He sits down beside her.

Her heart stopped again, they rushed her into another surgery. Bette replies. Sean pulls Bette into a hug.

Shes going to be okay, I know it. Sean says trying to convince himself as well as Bette.

Just then the nurse enters and walks over to Bette. She stands up, same does Sean.

This is Tinas brother. Bette says.

Hi, Im Sean. He says reaching out his hand.

Hi, Im Anne. The nurse says.

Tina is a tough one. Shes out of surgery again. There was an internal bleeding but Dr. Holloway managed to stop it. They are bringing her down to ICU again soon. Nurse Anne says.

Is she still on the respirator? Bette asks.

Yes, she is, she will be, at least the next 24 hours or so. Nurse Anne says.

When can we see her? Bette asks.

Ill ask the doctor, and tell him that her brother has arrived. Nurse Anne says.
Thank you. Both Bette and Sean replies.

The nurse walks back into the staff only door.

Bette sits back down and Sean takes a seat next to her.

I know this is hard, but I have to know what happened. Sean says placing his hand on Bettes knee.

Bette takes a deep breath and clears her voice.

I didnt see how it started, I was in class and then suddenly we heard several gunshots. I ran out and saw a kid injured, I ran over to him. He was shot in the leg. Then I heard Tinas voice Bette takes a break, tears falling. I screamed out that she had to get down, but I dont think any sound came out. Bette takes a break again. Then I hear another shot, and our eyes meet as she falls to the ground. Bette says and breaks down crying. She was helping the smallest kids to safety. Bette cries.

Sean put his arm around Bettes shoulder.

Shell make it. She always was a fighter. Sean says as he cant hold back the tears anymore.

Kit walks up to them and takes Angelica.
