Shane tied the cloth restraint on Bette just in time.  Bette turned to Shane to see what was happening.  When she couldn’t move her hand, she started cussing at everyone.  Shane then put her weight on Bette’s leg so Patty could secure it.  Dan had to get tough.  He yelled right in Bette’s face!  It took Bette by surprise.  With her limbs secured to the bed, Dr. Lennon approaches the bed.  Bette starts screaming, “TINA, HELP ME!  TINA….Get me the f*ck out of here!”

When Tina hears Bette screaming for her, she jumps up.  Alice and Kit hold her arms and Dana blocks her view of Bette’s room.  Tina is crestfallen.

Alice says, “Tina lets go get that AIDS test out of the way.  Kit and Dana will stay here just in case.  Okay?  We’ll come right back when you’re finished.”

Tina and Alice return to the waiting room after the AIDS test.  The door to the waiting room is closed.  Tina opens the door as Kit stands up.  “Baby Girl lets go to Bette’s room and wait okay?”  Tina replies.  “No I want to stay here.  What if ….”  Kit interrupts Tina.  “Baby Girl there is nothing for you to do here except get crazed by all the yelling and cussing.  It’s draining Girl.  I’m telling youfor your own good!  You don’t need to hear it.  Come on everyone lets go to Bette’s room to wait.”

***THREE HOURS AND TEN MINUTES LATER***

The phone is ringing in room #210.  “Tina this is Dan.  We’re bringing Bette downstairs now.  I don’t want Bette to see you just yet.  Mel and I would like to talk with you first.  Mel wants to explain what’s going to happen with the investigation, and I’ll go over Bette’s progress.  We’ll meet you by the Nurses Station.”

Tina has the girls go to the waiting room.  When Tina sees Mel and Dan she try’s to read their faces.  Tina asks excitedly.  “How did the deprogramming go?  Was Bette very difficult? Were the doctor’s satisfied with the outcome?”

Dan is laughing.  “Tina slow down I’ll tell you everything!  First off are you okay?  (Tina nods ‘Yes’)  “Bette did very well.  But she is a very strong-willed young woman!  You are going to have your hands full with her!  Let’s see how shall I put it?  Bette is very challenging to say the least!  Once the doctor’s got through the wall she had put up, she became very cooperative.  When everything started making sense to her, she realized we were not the enemy. When the doctor’s write their reports I’ll make sure you get a copy.  It was also recommended that Bette go into Drug Rehab.  Even though she is not a regular drug user, we don’t want her to become one.  With drug rehab the threshold of significant improvement is reached in about three months in treatment. Now do you have any questions for me?”
