It didn’t take long for Tina and Bette to find Emma – she had just been given a huge burger and was helping herself to an extra helping of onions.

Emma grinned and put her burger back on its paper plate
“Hello girls – you should try the burger’s Tina – I have a new firm in to do all the catering and they are superb “
“Oh don’t worry – we will be sampling as much of the food as we can stuff into our mouths – my mother’s used to consider it a slur on their hospitality if anyone ate f two days after the picnic”
“No chance of that – I was going to roast a pig on a spit but I did realise that it might upset the kids and the veggie’s – so the pig is in a tent and the pork sandwiches will be served later”

“How are you mom ?” Tina asked

“How’s Helena ?” Tina inquired
Emma blushed slightly “Whatever I say will embarrass someone “
Bette snorted “Didn’t stop Helena the other night “
“Yes – I am sorry about that Bette – she shouldn’t have put you in that position “
“She shouldn’t have but she’s got form and to be fair to her – I had been pretty shitty to her about the two of you “
“She was hurt Bette “
“I know – and Helena tends to find ways of making people pay when she is hurt. I didn’t really think anything through – its none of my business what the two of you do “
“But you are indirectly involved because of Tina “ Emma said “Look Bette – I know what it looks like to everyone else. I know what I would be saying if I saw Helena and I together – I know all the criticisms – but “
“You are having fun “ Bette said “I know and I am sorry if I hurt you or Helena – it was the last thing I wanted and I am ashamed of how reacted – especially as your daughter doesn’t seem to have a problem with it “
“I don’t but I can see why Bette reacted the way she did – mom – we do love you and we want you to be happy “
“I am – and its even better that I can see my daughter looking so content – Bette its obvious that you and Tina are very right for one another “
“Thanks – we are “ Bette said and lent over and kissed Tina “I love her and I know that she knows it and I hope that you know it as well “
“Is there anything we can do mom – I feel bad that I haven’t got involved like I usually do”
“Nonsense – you have had your hands full with Bette – perfectly alright for you to take a step back – anyway – I enjoyed doing it myself – I like my own way “
“You do know how much Helena likes her own way ?” Bette asked smiling
“I do- it will be fun to see what happens when my way collides with her own way”
Tina laughed “Sounds like you are looking forward to the fight “
“I wouldn’t say that but we have talked about the inevitable moment when the irrepressible force meets the immovable object “
“And what have you decided ?” Bette asked – she had to admit that the thought of a battle of wills between Emma and Helena was just fascinating – women didn’t stand up to Helena.
