It’s Over…Or Is It? (revised) Chapter 1 (January FF Challenge)
I was wrong, and I just can’t live…
She choked up, listening, and she realized that it was true: she couldn’t live without Tina. The irony that the song was by Player made her sad, since she thought that’s how people might see her now.
But what about Candace? There was definitely a connection between them—but what was it? The station identification broke into her thoughts reminding her that time was slipping away, so she renewed her resolve to see Tina, the love of her life. The one who had been loyal and faithful. The one she hurt so badly. The one she needed to tell that it was over with the carpenter.
She turned into her driveway and went into the empty house, hoping to see a sign that Tina had been there. But she figured that was very unlikely, though she wasn’t sure what Tina was doing about clothes. Every time she looked in the closet, things were just as they had been left.
Bette stripped off her clothing and put them in the hamper. She went to the bathroom and turned on the shower, seeking to make it a ritual to cleanse herself of all vestiges of Candace. Now that she understood that she wanted Tina and Tina alone, she stepped into the stall and positioned herself under the shower head. As she began to cover herself with the shower gel, though, Candace’s words came back to her: You know the truth, and it won’t go away… this is real, Bette–as real as it gets.
She covered her ears, trying to block out the sound. She tried to think of Tina, but all she could think of was Candace’s touch when they’d showered together only a few days earlier. "Why is this woman under my skin!?" she thought.
Time was getting away from her. She had no time for these distractions, so she did what usually helped her stay focused: her work. There was a meeting at the CAC later that morning, and though it was a struggle, she began to run through her presentation and the counterarguments she expected as she got dressed. But first, she had to stop by The Planet. Whatever it took, she would have to start working on winning Tina back.
She checked her cell phone before walking out the door and, seeing that it was a message from Candace, deleted it without listening to it. But as she drove away, her mind raced, wondering what she had said.
"No…NO!!!!! It doesn’t matter what she said! It’s over!!!!!"

I agree with the others, Candace was simply a symptom to a bigger problem. I also thought it strange that she would just disappear without so much as one confrontation. Great start. Enjoy your birthday!!
Hello arkaycee, that was so very heart felt, the emotional wreckage that someone goes through can cause them to seek solace in places of comfort and that is what Bette found in Candace, after everything that was happening in her life up to and leading into their liaison she needed shelter where non could be found. Bette loves to freely and that is one of her major character flaws, it isn’t a bad thing it is just a part of her makeup and it makes her so human. This was exceptional, can’t wait for more. Sincerely, JC
heeey, that was really good. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again-candace was someone that bette needed in her life, when she needed her. whether it was meant to last or not, bette was a bit of a sh** to her in my mind. i liked your perspective on it all. ace!
So this is what you were up writing while I was asleep…..I have to agree with the first two commenters….Bette does love freely and Candace came along at the right time……A time where she needed some attention….someone to make her feel alive…….Great as always and can’t wait to see where you go with this……..BTW……HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABE!
Great conversation between the two. i’m not so sure that candance was what bette needed at that time, cuz it only made matter worse. bette and tina are both to blame for the failing marriage and lack of communication.
Very interesting start, Arr. Glad you resumed writing fanfiction. I’ll certainly follow this one, though I would love it if you kept writing the old one ( which title I unfortunately forgot. Sorry… ) as well.
“Feelings”, that’s it ! Are you planning on updating that other brilliant fic of yours, Arr ? I loved it.
Nice start Ar. I always wondered if Bette felt so much remorse then with find herself in Candace’s bed. Anger at Tina, need for consulation or did she have real feelings for Candace. I guess I need to read the other fics to see hwat the takes are. Nice start and HAPPY Birthday!!!. What is this the ?th anniversary of 29. ;=)
Hey Arkaycee, What a turbulent and traumatic chapter that was. Good to see Candace’s point of view. I loved that Bette was so confused. I am a TiBetter at heart so hope that BEtte can make it work again with Tina but am happy to read your input of these event. More please. A Fan.
What I love the most about the story is how beautifully you create the conflict for Bette using Candace. When Candace is talking to Bette and trying to convince her to stay in the relationship , you can feel Bette’s confusion and how she doesn’t want to disappoint Candace and yet she’s still very much tied to Tina. It was emotionally intense and I feel like you made a dope choice to include the song lyrics. I hope that you post more soon. Awesome.
This was brilliant. It is so much easier to understand Bette’s feelings and motives when reading your story. It was left abruptly on the show. Have to say when Bette got on her knees in front of Tina in the lawyer’s office, I don’t know how Tina resisted. When Bette said “This is not who we are. We can fix this, T.”, I just melted. PPS. I can’t wait for more.
