Chapter 2: “You and Bette seem to be getting along”

“Wow Dana Fairbanks I’m a huge fan” Dana smiles and blushes. No one had ever had this affect on her in just one sentence “Bette didn’t mention she had friends in the sporting world”

“We’re housemates, she’s my best friend and confidante” Alice felt a small twinge of jealousy. God Bette was a lucky bitch living in the same house as Dana Fairbanks “So what do you do?” Alice was a magazine columnist. She wrote about everything to do with same sex relationships

“I’m a columnist in Rosa Magazine” that was Dana’s favourite magazine. She always reads Alice’s column. It was helping her realise that she doesn’t need to afraid of being a lesbian

“Oh yeah I read your column” Alice’s heart skips a beat again. ‘She reads my column I’m in love with her already’ “It’s great for young women who are struggling to come to grips with their sexuality” while Alice and Dana continued talking Bette was outside looking for Tina

“Tina you out here” Tina was leaning on the wall having a cigarette. Tina only ever smoked if she was nervous about something and right now she was nervous about being around Bette. She didn’t hear Bette calling for her “Oh here you are” Tina gets the fright of her life

“Shit!” Bette laughs as Tina tries to calm herself down

“Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you” Tina puts her cigarette out before looking at Bette. Her smile is dismantling Tina from the inside

“It’s ok I just needed a cigarette” Bette smiles again and that completely disarms Tina. Tina is now completely at Bette’s mercy and Bette knows it. But she decides now wouldn’t be the best time to try anything

“It’s ok are you coming back inside I’m about to make my speech” Tina smiles and nods. They go back inside and see Alice and Dana laughing and talking

“Looks like they’re getting on pretty well” Bette couldn’t disagree. She was happy to see Dana getting along with someone so much “I just hope I don’t have to wear earplugs tonight” the two women laugh. They were suddenly interrupted by a tapping on Bette’s shoulder. It was James, Bette’s PA.
