Jess — Plan B; pt. 48
Time to take command.
“What if we make pasta?”
By this point, she appears to have gone into some odd food-related coma. She’s just giving me a blank stare.
“You know, boil water, dump in noodles, top with stuff.”
“Of course, pasta.”
She grabs for a box of stuff on the shelf. She really does not cook.
“What if we do the stuff to put on top first?” I hate gummy pasta that’s been sitting around waiting for something.
“Okay. Do you know if Tina has any spaghetti sauce?”
“She just makes it.” Like, c’mon, I thought you knew my mom.
“So”
Somewhere I got the idea that this woman was tough or something. Geez, was I wrong, or what? Creampuff! Total creampuff!
I start rummaging around in the fridge to see what mom might have left for us. “Anything you hate?”
“Cab drivers who make right turns from the left-hand lane.”
Okay, so I don’t drive and stuff, but I think that it’s really possible that Bette Porter just made a joke. “Um, that’s a
She gives me a shrug.
If only she wasn’t trying to steal mom away and ruin my life, Bette Porter might be okay, after all. “Hey, I recognized it as a joke.”
But, back to the growling stomach. “So. How about you let me know if you have any food preferences.”
“No fake meat.”
Oh.my.gosh! We agree again. “Mom used to slip me that stuff all the time, until I got old enough to figure it out.”
“She used to do that to me, also.”
“Really?”
Porter nodded.
“Hmmm. I thought it was just something inflicted on those who couldn’t read.”
“She can be tricky.”
That’s for sure. “Well, then, if you prefer real vegetables, we’ve got those. I think we have some ground beef or something, or else we can go without.”
“Your call.”
She’s making this too easy for me. Now, why is that? Is she trying to lull me into a false sense of security? “Ok, tonight, we’ll be the vegetarians that mom never expected.”

That was great. Nice to see Jess warming up some. Can’t wait for her to take it back. :) Post again soon.
What can I say other than I am always so happy to see a new post from you! “but once supplied with a knife and cutting board, I got myself wondering why I’d just given the woman a knife.” has me rolling on the floor laughing so loud I scared the cat.
Jess has a softer side? So did Linda Blair in The Exhorsit…when she wasn’t possessed! Maybe Jess just might end up liking Bette in spite of her teenage years.
I like the way Bette is walking on pins and needles one minute, but unwilling to cave the next. Another great chapter. Thank you for taking time out from your busy life to post, it is truly appreciated.
this is too funny……….post soon
Is there a light at the end of this tunnel? Is it possible that Jess will discover that Bette isn’t quite the monster she has imagined? I’m loving this!
just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your story…i love seeing Bette try so hard and its quite funny that of all people to make Bette squirm, it’s a 15 yr old :-)
its nice to see that jess is lightening up a little.. great chapter… please continue
Great update. Glad to see the walls might be coming down just a little.
Happy to see Jess relax a little this chapter brought smiles.
great chapter. love how you incorporated the kitchen. always felt you can talk just about anything in a kitchen while cooking or cleaning. maybe bette should go and watch jess’ softball game to show support. always made me happy when someone would come watch me. thanks for posting so soon and keep it up please. love your story.
yeah Jess Bette is a vampire and she is more than welcome to bite my neck..lol..i´m so glad Jess is finally acting like a human being..i hope they act like mom and daughter before Tina goes back but i think that is too much to ask..lol..great chapter P thanks
No back sliding there Jess… you are the one that started this after all.
K
Great chapter, it’s nice when they get along, love it.
Glad to see you P, it’s going to be a sucky weekend I’m sick, really sick,(streph throat) so as I’m lying in bed sweating with this fever and drooling, I had to let you know that bit about the vampire had me LMAO, it hurt like hell but I just couldn’t stop.
Despite your so busy life of bon-bons, reality tv and little creatures, you are just so funny! I love the sense of humor you have for your characters.
Thank you! Many bon bons for you!
Finally Jess is starting to soften a little. I’m still very curious though as to why BP left in the first place, I have a feeling it was Tina who pushed her away which may make Jess think differently towards her, especially if she’s starting to like her a little
Love this, Jess so funny!
