Jess — Plan B; pt. 89
Sunday morning. Should be nice and fluffy sleep-in kind of day. But I’m up early. It’s not even noon.
“Do you have plans for today?”
The mom. She speaks. She barely spoke yesterday.
I shrug. I’m still working on the frosted flakes. No plans as of yet.
“Maybe I could take you and Luis out for dinner.”
Okay, that’s immediately suspect. “No thanks.”
She looks kind of hurt. But if it’s going to be anything like the other night at the movies, well, a little adult involvement is just not a good thing.
“Are you sure, honey?” Now her hand’s on my shoulder.
Something is very much up. I’m certain of it now. “Mom, I don’t need a chaperone.”
She sat down at the table. “I’m not going as your chaperone.”
“Yeah, and Uncle Frank wasn’t either, but he still tried to sit between me and Luis at the movies.” Maybe I shouldn’t have said all of that, or any of that. But I know they’re conspiring against me. They might as well know that I know.
“Jess, I know that this might be a confusing time for you. You know you can always talk to me, right? About anything?”
Yeah, mom, I know that. Except I can’t. And if you think you can make me say something, all that’s going to happen is you’re going to watch my frosted flakes sog out.
She started to look a little panicky, though. Perhaps I should have answered her.
“Jess, Jessica.”
Uh oh. I just got a full name. Whatever. I jam s’more flakes in, which is going to keep me from saying anything else stupid, I hope.
“Please, Jess. If there’s anything at all you want to say.”
You already heard it all from Porter, mom, I’m sure of it.
But there’s something about the way mom looks that kind of makes me want to say something, just so she doesn’t cry.
“Mom, remember when you would tell me stuff. You know, boy/girl stuff?”
“Yes.”
Short answer, but it’s an answer. Not bad since I think both of us kind of forgot how to breathe right about now.

Can I ask for a favor? I really want Jess to get some Porter advice and have her come home quickly. Then Tina can see that Bette was just trying to help and Jess can also explain that to her and things will be right. I think Jess and Bette are in the ‘right’ here and Tina needs to stop, look, and listen instead of just reacting. Thanks for the post and I hope to see more soon! Longer ones are welcomed too!
ohh poor Jess..just when she was really trying to trust on Bette…and stared to opened her heart to her..i have the feeling that Jess will run to NY..lol..great as always P post as soon as you can thanks :o)
great chapter pseud love that jess will talk to her mom.
Soooooo close…Jess was so close in clueing Tina into Bette’s little ‘talking’ deal. That probably would have made a huge difference to Tina. But I guess Jess thought that Bette had told Tina everything. Great chapter. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
You are definitely one of the most engaging writers here. Keep up the good work!
I hope Bette comes back quickly. All 3 of them need to be in the same room. Thanks for the chapters.
I’m not sure why Jess hasn’t mentioned anything about Bette…even things like “Why didn’t she say goodbye before she left for NY?” or “Where is she?” or “Why isn’t she answering my calls?”. I feel like Bette and Jess made this connection and when Bette left, she walked out on Jess too, and kids don’t get that…so I think that Jess should start to question Tina about Bette’s whereabouts…
Poor Tee, she must be cudgeling her brains for how to make up with cute and innocent Bette. =P
all these intelligent ladies have voiced my opinion on this subject. and jess said it best. if i couldnt talk to you to find someone, well dammit she did. and now bettes in trouble????? all need to be in the same room soon please. loved the chappy and the words p. thanks.
You suggested earlier that Tina has some jealousy issues with Jess and Bette connecting. Also hope T can figure out that sometimes it’s almost impossible to talk to the person you love the most and so Jess has chosen someone else. Always thoroughly enjoy your chapters.
wonderful as usual – Bette running interference, yeah OK, Jess, if pseud hasn’t gotten the whole thing messed up beyond redemption – you wouldn’t, would you??
So, now, Jess has come to value Porter. Hee. Maybe Tina will see that Bette loves them; because Jess said she promised that she talk to her. Great story. Thanks!
I love Jess’ POV as i know i am going to laugh and once again, you succeeded. keep the ink flowing pseud, you know we love your work. Looking forward to the next installment
bette better get back soon and all 3 need to talk, or it will end up in disaster, and i want B&T new relationship to work
wow, it seems like tina has kinda taken the “bette” roll in this situation. you know, spoke before she thought things over. Tina really needs to call Bette and talk about this. I think that Jess did very good about talking with Tina. I hope tina wakes up from her dream of a perfect daughter. keep writing. I’ll be reading.
Ah, nothing like a little mother/daughter double speak to make things clear as mud between them. That was perfect.Communication is difficult enough between parents and children when they are in their teens, but it’s even more difficult when the topic is sex. Jess did point out though, that she did what Tina had suggested…she sought out someone else to talk to. OK, so she didn’t really seek Bette out as much as used her for her own convenience.Jess let Tina know that she was supposed to talk to Tina before she did anything…but did Tina pick up on that fact? The fact that Bette was making Jess do that, that it wasn’t just a suggestion. They are all such intelligent women, but not one of them seem to be able to talk themselves out of a paperbag lately. Excellent chapter.
I just read all 800 chapters. albeez..you are right, what a story! I hope you post soon. Thanks.
Excellent chapter, please make them all sit down and talk this out, because I wont them all back together as a family soon
Only for you do I make an exception and read fan fiction during my work week. I do love how you capture the voice of a teenager…
I love the tone of your writing. You take me back to those insecure teen years where every single thing felt like the end of the world or the best experience I ever had…no grey areas. Please continue…the journey is marvelous.
Poor Bette and poor Jess, they are trying to interactand now Tina gets jealous. Bette is after all the second parent and Tina should just let her take on that role whenever necessary. Bette is only trying to help her child. Tina knows that deep down. Just let them all love each other. Thanks for the post.
I’ve been away for awhile, and have just caught up with everything. I have sooooo missed this story, kinda glad there were alot of updates for me to read. I have to say I agree with most of the gang. Jess did what Tina had advised, if you can’t talk to me find someone you can. Hey at least she picked Porter. Tina needs to lighten up a bit on Bette and Jess. She wants it all to work but seems to do everything to tear it apart. YOu know if you try hard enough you can ruin what is already right. Keep it up I look forward to your updates.
i’m with bette on this one though to be fair to tina there’s only one person who communicates less than her wife and thats her hormone charged daughter — you do all three perpectives really well !! well done on the 100k mark ( i think )
Great chapter. Hoppe Jess call Bette and ask her to fly back to LA!
Oh man…if only Jess were a little more talkative to her mom…or if Tina were a bit more specific with her inquisition. “I have to talk to you. Bette made me promise, because she’s clever and you need to call her right now.” …or something like that… ;)
I love the chapters with Jess’ POV. You do that so well, writing from a teenagers view, it’s always so sweet, funny and thruthful. I hope Porter will return soon! Thanks for posting Pseud!
PseudI have just caught up the last few chapters and must say that you have brilliantly captured the doubt and confusion that all three parties are feeling.Tina was just beginning to trust Bette again and then this tenuous thread was broken by her daughter’s decision to talk her love life through with Bette first. What child tells their mother these things first? We all discuss this with our friends first then move on to our families. Tina needs to realize that this was such an achievement for Jess to have sufficient confidence in telling Bette as Bette deal with the news in an honest and heartfelt manner. Getting Jess to promise to confide in her mum as well shows how far Bette has come and how much of a mother she could become.Bette needs to believe that the effort is worth it and the chance of a reunited family means that she would walk over hot coals to demonstrate how far she will go. Don’t give up now, show that you have changed is the only means to get Tina to move on.Jess wants to tell her mom but can’t due to the embarrassment factor of talking to a parent about matters of the heart. She requires to know how this confidence has affected her mother’s and Bette’s tentative rekindling relationship. Please bring them back together, even the same city would be a start.A fantastic and fun filled story, bursting with highs and lows. Thank you.Your Loyal Fan.
I started to read this and realized that I had missed some posts, went back and now, I’m finally caught up…and my point is what? You could write 200k and everyone would be just as caught up in your story as they currently are, I believe. Excellent work, pseud – love the characters as you’ve written them, the story…the whole of it all. Thanks!
ok everyone has given their ideas, here’s mine. Jess has Bette’s number, she should call her and ask her where she is and why she told he mom stuff. then Bette can tell Jess she’s back in NY because Tina told her to leave. Jess then needs to go yell at her mom (cuz that’s what teens do when their parents mess things up for them regardless of the parents’ intentions) and tell her to bring her back. then have Tina go back to Bette and ask for forgiveness. just my two cents worth. whatever you do, I KNOW it’ll be great!
fabulous as usual!
Great chapter as always. Just to let you know…I love it when you post.
Phhewww … I see a light at the end of the tunnel! I was holding my breath for a lot of the previous chapters and now i’m exhaling. Thanks for reinstalling just a little hope :-)
