The conversation in both cars was light and flowed easily between the long time friends. As they drove, Bette kept looking back at the second car, hoping that in the darkness of night she would be able to steal a glance at the woman that she was destined to spend her life with. In much the same fashion, Tina kept peering at the lead car, looking for Bette in the darkness, wishing that she were sitting beside her. Everyone in the cars were chatting about any and everything that they could, and Kit was humming along to some unknown song with a smile on her face. Kit gave no hints as to what the song was, or why she was humming it, leaving Alice and Bette in the dark.

After about an hour or so on the road, Bette couldnt take it no more, and neither could Tina. Both women reached for their phones and dialed each other, wanting and needing to here the sweet tones of the others voice. Since they were dialing at the same tine, instead of each other, they were greeted by a busy signal. Disappointed, they both hung up and tried and again, with much the same results as the first time.

Damn busy signal.
Baby girldid you ever think that you and Tina are so in tuned with each other that you both are thinking the same thoughts at the same time?

Bette gave Kit a quizzical look, but followed the directions of her older sister. she sat and stared at her phone, and on cue it began to ring. Bette looked at the caller ID and her eyes immediately lit up when she saw Tinas name flashing in the screen. The excitement in her voice could not be hidden as she answered the phone, as Kit and Alice looked at each other, smiled and shook their heads knowingly.

Hi baby!

I wish I could see you right now.
Soon Bettereal soon.
I cant wait!
Neither can I.
Well we will be up on the mountaintop before you know it!
Yes we willyes we will.
Ok babewell we better get off the phonesI just wanted to call and tell you that I LOVE YOU!

With smiles on their faces, both women put down their phones and let out a sigh. Not a sigh of disgust, but one of waiting, one of wanting and one of anticipation, as neither woman could wait until the drive was over.

The rest of the drive passed by quickly. And before they knew it, they had traveled the road to the tops of Mt. Haleakala, and had pulled up to a beautiful out look, facing the east. They had gotten there ahead of schedule, and sat in the cars, watching the sky brighten slightly, signaling the beginning of a new era for Bette and Tina. Soon, the occasion that all had been waiting for was to begin, and the anticipation and excitement built with each and every minute that passed. With the stars begging to fade, and the moon on its final decent, only a few more minutes separated the lovers and the rest of their lives.
