Chapter 4

“All right missy, you better start talking.”

“Alice? What are you doing?” Shane sat the skateboard down at her shop and walked over to her friend.

“I want to know what’s going on between you and Miss Helena Peabody. You better start spilling your guts now.” Shane smiled and wrapped her arm around Alice’s shoulder.

“We’ll talk—I’ll take you out for a bite.” The two women towards Shane’s Jeep and got in.

“Ooohhh—free food.”

“So tell me what’s going on McCutcheon?”

Shane smiled. “I don’t know—Helena and I are falling for each other.”

“I know that much. I want some details.” Shane took a drink of her strawberry shake.

“What do you want to know? We kissed a couple of times—we’ve talked about our feelings a little, but that’s as far as we’ve got.” Alice shoved a French fry in her mouth.

“So do you want to be with her?”

“Yeah—I told her yesterday that I wanted to be more than friends.” She took another drink of her shake.

“Are you going to ask her on a date?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever asked a girl on a date—well besides Carmen.”

“Well you should ask Helena out on a date. Why don’t you take her over to the Planet tonight? Goldfrapp and Betty are going to be there. You should really take her—you guys would have a great time.”

“I-I don’t know—,” Shane shook her head and took a bite out of her burger.

“Miss McCutcheon you are not going to back down now. You will ask Helena out.” Alice grabbed her phone.

“What are you doing Alice?”

“I’m calling her right now, and you are going to ask her out.” Shane went to grab Alice’s phone, but Alice began to smack Shane’s hand away.

“Stop that,” she smiled and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “Helena—hey! I have someone who would like to talk to you right now. Hang on,” she handed the phone over to Shane. “Take it,” Shane shook her head. “Take it.” Shane sighed and grabbed the phone.

“Hey Helena—it’s Shane.”

“Hey Shane,” Helena plopped down at Alice’s couch.

“The reason why Alice called was for me to ask you something.”
