Just Friends – Chapter 3
“You told them?” Alice and Tina turned to the direction their friends were looking. “Whilst I was sitting at home feeling utterly humiliated, wondering why my best friend won’t call me back you are here sharing my humiliation with my friends?” Bette felt the tears form along her bottom eyelid. She stormed off feeling humiliated for the second time today by the woman she trusted most.
Tina tried running after Bette eager to explain why she felt the need to tell their friends before even talking to her about it first, however she was stopped in her tracks by Bette’s older half sister Kit.
“Don’t even – ” She blocked the tiny blonde. “Kit this is serious I need to go find Bette it’s important…please move” She tried to side step her. “She told me what happened, you’re lucky I even let you walk in here tonight”
“And yet here I am trying to leave and you won’t let me” Tina said becoming irritated by the over protective sister act. “…I’m sorry Kit, I’m just frustrated I didn’t mean it” She stepped passed Kit on her way out the door, by then Bette was nowhere in sight. “Fuck!”
‘I knew everything would change, even Tina seems like a completely different person now’ Bette wasn’t concentrating on the road her mind kept wondering of to where she should have stopped before all this started. Without even knowing how she got there Bette pulled up in front of the beach, she grabbed her jacket and headed down towards the ocean hoping that no one would find her there.
Tina pulled up in front of Bette’s house, none of the lights were on and her car wasn’t in the drive way; however she used her old key to get into the house that she once lived in. Bette had never bothered to ask for the key back, Tina was welcome anytime and she usually looked after Bette’s house when she went away on business anyway.
“Bette?” She walked around the house calling her name but just as she suspected she wasn’t there. ‘I feel unwelcome here already’
She walked around the familiar house everything exactly the way it was before she left; even her old room was left untouched. Tina sat on her bed remembering the night when she came home completely in tears.
