    Just One Dance

The silent ride finally ended as Bette slowly parked the Saab in front of Tina’s home for the past year. She turned off the motor and turned to face Tina.

"I fucked up. I demoted us to this state…"

Tina gently laid her hand on Bette’s thigh. "Bette, stop. We’ve been over this. We BOTH fucked up bigtime. We’re both to blame for our partnership’s demise. Please don’t go down that road again." Tina’s eyes locked with Bette’s and pleaded for her to just let it go.

Bette looked down at Tina’s hand momentarily, then again met Tina’s with total sincerity. "Are you in love with him?" she quietly asked her former life partner.

"Bette, I told you he’s a great guy."

"You didn’t answer my question. I asked you if you’re in love with him."

Tina quickly looked away to hide that uncertainty that had once again flooded her eyes.

Bette gently took Tina’s hand in her own. "Dance with me."

    "What?"

"Dance with me, T. Just one dance."

"But ba…Bette," Tina almost slipped, "It’s pissing down the rain!"

    "I know. Come on."

Bette quickly got out of the car then ran to the passenger side to help Tina out of the car. She reached into the glove compartment and popped in a CD. She cranked up the volume then shut the door. She took Tina into her arms as the music began to play.

Dancin’ where the stars go blue
    Dancin’ where the evening fell
    Dancin’ in your wooden shoes
    In a wedding gown

    Dancin’ out on 7th street
    Dancin’ through the underground
    Dancin’ little marionette
    Are you happy now?

Where do you go when you’re lonely
Where do you go when you’re blue
Where do you go when you’re lonely
    I’ll follow you
    When the stars go blue

Bette kept her forehead planted firmly against Tina’s as they danced. Their eyes remained locked as the rain in their hearts spilled over their lower eyelids to mingle with the rain from the sky. Bette had missed this closeness with Tina, her T, and Tina had missed it with Bette as well even though she didn’t want to admit it. Tina finally let go and allowed Bette to pull her even closer to the point they were barely moving but rather gently swaying to the music and the twangy voice.

    1. Biased, that’s kinda the point. I hadn’t intended to make this an actual story. That doesn’t mean I won’t though. I just preferred to leave it open at the end for the dreamers out there. :)

    2. Great story Lamentamini. I hope you will reconsider and write more chaps ? It was heartfelt, sad and promising. I felt like there might be hope for the two of them still ? Maybe you could help them to reconnect because I don’t think S4 will help in that department. Thanks for the post.

    3. Now I know that you love Tina and we all know that Tina belongs with Bette, so I do hope that when Tina calls Bette tomorrow that she is going to say that I am following you and not him come take me home. I am looking forward to a next chapter of this little story.

    4. “…for two women who were only meant to be friends at best”…yeah right…I ain’t buying that and hopefully when you continue this story (hint…hint) you won’t buy into it either. Lamentamini…you have done it again…you are such the writer you…I hope you continue this story and give us a happy ending.

    5. Ok, so what do you mean it’s meant to be a stand-alone ? This is just not possible, Lament. Not only is it very good, but it’s also very promising, you can’t just stop here. Ok, so what can we do to make you change your mind and keep on writing ? Pleeeeaaaase Lamentamini, don’t stop !

    6. Very, very nice, Lament! You can write a touching love story–ya got range, kid! Tugged at my TiBette heartstrings, most certainly. It was so very telling that Tina never directly said she was in love with “Bacne”! I’d love to see you continue this, and very soon!

    7. Great, great, great!!! I usually don’t read fanfics that take place after season 3, but this is one of the few exceptions! I loved it, I think precisely because of what’s left unsaid! You gave us the most important, and the rest is, as you said, left to the reader’s imagination. And mine is going wild! Thanks, Lament!

    8. that was great Lament! so beautifully written. If I may request additional chapters, that would be good. ut i do agree that some things are better left unsaid.

    9. We could fill in the blanks but I hate that. Were visual people and need to read that it actually happened. So in other words we need the rest of the story with the happy ending we’ve all just produced in our heads. Loved it, you could just imagine those two dancing in the rain. Why doesn’t this stuff happen on the show?

    10. Aw…. that’s kinda painful. See, I WANT to see a happy ending, but I think my dreamer’s eye have been affected by that damn IC because I only see Tina and Henry. ::shudder:: However, I think it’s safe to guess this makes for a happier ending. Hope you consider continuing ’cause this is freakin’ amazing.

    11. I love Ryan Adams’ version, too. I also play it in a loop. This chapter has potential to be expanded. Can they get together? They have that connection. Very heartfelt. PPS.
