    I can’t smile..

    CHAPTER THIRTEEN: I Can’t Smile..

    Sunset Inn, New Haven.

    Two days later.

    Ring.

    She thought she was dreaming; foolishly believed she was stuck in a dreamy haze. But when the sound progressed – so did her journey back to full consciousness. And before she knew it, the fog disappeared and her mind became wakeful, and she knew with certainty coupled with an incensed scowl that it wasn’t a dream. This was reality – and dammit, reality sucks.

    Ring.

    Then she thought it was yet another figment of her overactive imagination; after all, her head was nothing but noisy during the past days. Maybe instead of hearing those nagging voices, her brain was conjuring up annoying chimes now. Or perhaps it was her ears that were ringing – and for the millionth time since her troubles began, she began wishing she had the power to tune everything out and make her world go silent.

    Ring.

    There it was again. That sound, shrill and loud, was irritating – grating at her frazzled nerves until she had no choice but to blindly feel the bed for the spare pillow and bury her head under it to drown out the noise.

    Ring.

    But it didn’t work.

    And the ringing endured.

    Now while the sound seemed to intensify, her patience had also run thin.

    One. She counted. Two. It will stop at the count of three, she told herself. You’ll see. The determined mind was a powerful one. And.. Three.

    Ring.

    Her mind, apparently, was powerless against the almighty telephone. And after a millisecond, she discovered that so was her will.

    She could continue and deny things – blame her weary body and overused imagination for it – but deep down she knew, that if she wanted to end her suffering there was only one damn thing to do..

    She stretched an arm.. grabbed a firm hold of the receiver.. brought it to her ear.. and with a sleepy tone breathed out..

    “H-Hello?”

    “Good morning! This is Karla from the front desk, you have a call from a Miss Alice Pieszecki. Should I connect the call ma’am?”

    2. I went back and read JTG chapter 30 – the one with the Ferris wheel and the gift-cookies for Bette’s B’day…including the “Tina’s heart cookie.” Bette promised not to hurt TK’s heart. Don’t you just hate it when someone brings back something you’ve said or done in the past to make a point. :) He-he! Need to fix this…PPS. :)

    4. So good I have to comment twice. :-) I forgot to say earlier that I don’t often get into teenage TiBette stories, but this story is just beyond good. I love all your characters, B and T especially. Your reformed and generous Bette, and your strong, passionate, stubborn Tina – “the immortal weed” – always a pleasure to read your updates. Thank you for taking the time to write and share with us. :-)

    6. Groveling Bette…bring it on Alchemy! Tina deserves major groveling.Alice was hysterical in this chapter! Her snarkiness to Clara…too good!Kareoke…with double dare…classic. Wonderful balence of drama and humor. Once again, you rock!

    7. Thanks for this update Alchemy. I can just imagine Bettes singing. And seems, the we havent reach the peak of the drama for whats to come. I remember the scenes with those effects. But please dont wait till the end to get them back together, pretty pls.

She’s got to earn Tina’s trust again. But Tina does need to know that Bette didn’t cheat on her. Grovelling Bette will be interesting. Thanks for the post, Alchemy.

    14. what can i say… i hate what they are doing… but i have faith it will end soon and be back together… at least i hope tina is willing to start forgiving bette… more ass kissing is called for… for sure… but tina needs to get out of where she is… let bette suffer some more… seeing tina all the tima and net being with her will kill her more..pps

    15. Okay so this dose of drama was definitely better..it’s what they must go through..I appreciatethe lovely balance of humor w/ the drama..and of course I love Sam’s return..the only other one Bette listens to…thank you

    16. Alchemy your mix of humor, drama, and sweetness is incomparable. :-) Bette dug her own hole with Tina, and now she needs to dig herself out. Trust is a fragile thing, and hard to earn back when it’s broken. The singing was priceless, haha! Thank you for this lighter chapter – it’s always a joy to read your writing.

    19. Man, I feel for both Bette and Tina. Tina has been royally wronged, but Bette is trying to make up for past mistakes. If Bette is ever in a position of talking to Tina she needs to come clean with all that she has been doing and why.

    20. That was great, sad to see B&T apart but hope they will talk, work thing out and get back together soon. Alice is crazy but gonna love her. Please post more, thanks!
