Just The Girl – Chapter Thirty Five (a HYD-inspired fic)

“What do you mean?” Bette frowned, not liking the words that just left her girlfriend’s lips. She was prepared to leave it all for Tina, so what the heck was Kennard saying?

Tina bit her lower lip, trying to formulate the right words. “Maybe.. maybe we should.. take a step back from our relationship.. and.. and think things through..” She tried her hardest to stop the tears from building up at the corner of her eyes. Fear was gripping Tina’s heart.. and as soon as it did, she began to panic and say things that she really didn’t mean. They were living in a fantasy, she tried to convince herself, maybe it was time to be a little realistic. “You know.. maybe its best for the both of us.. if.. we break up while everything is still in its early stages and re-evaluate some–”

“Shut up!” Bette interrupted as she covered Tina’s mouth with her hand. “You don’t get to do this..” She shook her head bitterly to the side. “You don’t get to give up on us so easily.” Her hands shook in anger as tears threatened to spill from her eyes. Breaking up was not the solution to their problems. “You were supposed to hold my hand and say that we are gonna be okay.” Bette continued, even as her voice started to crack. She was expecting – heck, she needed – to hear Tina say that they were gonna make it. That she also believed that what they have between them could surpass this major road block. She was scared, and she needed a few comforting words from Tina to set her soul at ease. “Despite appearances, I always believed that you were stronger than me.. but you’re the first one to want to break team.” She said sadly as she took her hand away from Tina’s mouth and slid out of the booth.

“Where are you going?” Tina whispered as her girlfriend started to walk away.

“Away.” Bette replied through gritted teeth. Away. I need to get far away from here, she thought as her mind raced, just so you won’t try to break up with me twice today. “Call Jenny and tell her that you’d be riding home with her.” She said as tears started trickling down her face.

    1. Strike one up for Bette. She is standing up to her father and showing Tina the depth of her feelings at the same time. After growing up with unlimited riches, I think it would be extraordinarily difficult to be left penniless. I hope Bette returns after reading Tina’s letter. Great story!

    2. I have been gone all day & am just know getting achance to catch up on my Fav. Fic. This was another awesome update…makes me want to go to Sea World minus the breaking up part. I hope they work things out-w/ a little help from Alice & Shane. I have just 1 request…please no more Max.

    3. First of all LMAO at Daddy Kennard being heartbroken about getting a promotion. Then what the hell is Tina thinking throwing things out there without explaining first…we all know Bette reacts at the first word and doesn’t listen. However, Bette better start listening if she doesn’t want to become just like Melvin…alone and bitter.

    4. first?????? youpiiiiiiiiiiiken is so funny? How did he work out promotion = fired?PMSLNow it s time for he F4 to show their support to their leader, help Bette fae and beat her father on that challenge. Great chapter, very funny with Tina’s dad but sad that Tina and Bette fought. They need each other right now to be strong against Melvin.PPS
