    Kiss Me at Midnight

Tina stood in the crowd at the Planet with a glass of champagne. The New Year was going to begin in the next thirty minutes, and Bette was nowhere in sight. She sighed heavily as she looked at her phone. She was worried that Bette got stuck in traffic or still at work. She walked around and ran her finger against the rim of the glass. She walked over to the bar and took a seat. She finally brought the glass to her lips and took a sip of the alcohol. She looked at the TV screen in the club as people partied on the east coast of the states as the year had come for them. She smiled and continued to wait.

“Hey TK,” Tina turned around and saw Alice and Dana.

“Hey you guys.” She got up and gave them a hug and kiss. “Did you guys just get here?”

“No,” Dana shook her head. “We’ve been here for almost an hour. We just got over to this side of the club.” She looked around. “Where’s Bette?”

“She’s still working,” Tina hesitated. “I’m really not sure.”

“Have you called her?” Alice took a drink of her beer.

“I have, but she’s not answering. I’m beginning to worry.” She raked her fingers through her hair.

“Don’t worry—she’ll be here.” Dana smiled.

“I hope so; I don’t want her to miss the countdown.” Tina pouted, and Alice touched her friend’s hand.

    “Tina—she’ll be here.”

“Hey ladies!” Kit approached them. “Are we having a good time tonight?”

“Hey Kit, great outcome. You have this place packed.” Tina grinned.

“Thank you, where’s Bette?” She looked around.

“She’s still at work.” Tina nodded.

“Or she could be stuck in traffic.” Alice chimed in.

    “Have you called her?”

“Yeah, but she’s not answering any calls.”

Dana looked at Alice. “I think Kit was asking Tina.” Alice glanced at Dana.

Tina chuckled. “It’s okay Dana, but I going to walk around.” She got up from the bar. “I’ll come and found you guys later.” They said bye to Tina as she walked away. She found another girl walking around with a tray and replaced her empty glass for a new one. She took a quick swallow of the chilled drink and licked her lips. She looked at her phone and gave Bette another call. She sighed and continued to walk through the crowd.
