Lady Slayer
Chapter 16
The sight before them was one that you would only ever imagine in a painting.
The area before them was enclosed by tall dense trees with a very beautiful and exquisite small ruined and derelict church in its centre, with no roof structure, two full walls standing and two partial standing. Incredibly, there was a perfectly intact stained glass window within the apex of one of the tall stone walls.
The derelict church was surrounded by a grassed area covered with a carpet of bluebells and campanula, the emerald grass blades poked through, interspersed with patches of random red clover and blue crocus.
The place that Bette had positioned them in gave them the view of overall scene, with the sun shining in front of them as it streamed through the stained glass window, giving a surreal coloured pattern dancing on the grassed area within the confines of the stone walls. It was a scene that you would never have believed would have existed in real life.
As Tina looked around she took her time to take in the view before her, to say she was astounded was an understatement, it was completely and utterly picture perfect.
"My god Bette, this place is unreal…, there must only be a few weeks of the year that this place must look like this, with the flowers out and the sun in that position…, I can’t believe this place…" Tina mumbled over her words, knowing this was one singular moment in her life that she would never forget.
"I wanted to share it with you…" Bette whispered.
Tina turned in Bette’s arms to see eye’s brimming with tears, she guessed this place was special but for some reason she found it incomprehensible how deeply it ran in Bette’s eyes, there really was something about this place that ran far deeper in Bette than she would ever possibly know.
Bette was awe struck at Tina’s response, she had hoped to get a positive reaction but she never anticipated that it would strike Tina to the core, just as it had to Bette all those years ago when her mother first brought her here…

I’m in love with this story right now. I was thinking about it earlier..and you posted a new chapter. I like this introspective, suddenly fragile on the inside, endearing Bette you have going here. I just want to comfort her. I hope Tina feels the same way. They have so many obstacles ahead of them with Bette’s past, Tina’s past, working for the same place, and I’m sure a host of people who won’t necessarily believe in their relationship should they start one. I hope they muddle through all of that together. Because it could be beautiful if they do. PPS.
Hey Jo, Great to see Bette finally opening up to Tina. This is trust at its most primal level. Bette is finally in a place where she can admit her fears and failings to Tina. This is a massive step in the development of Bette’s heart; at last she can see the errors of her ways and wants & needs to explain herself. This outpouring of emotion is so out of character that Bette is struggling. Tina is just being there and taking in everything that Bette cares to share with her. Trying to be better than you are is a classic sign of true love. Bette craves for Tina to see her warts and all. This is the true measure of their connection; being bare and revealing all of your inner most thoughts is so out of character for Bette and yet, she needs to share these with Tina. I think that her reasons are to see if it scares Tina away and if not what Tina will reply with. This opens the communication between these two lovers to an extreme level. Bette taking Tina to her safe haven is such a big step and adding to that the revelations that she is making about her past is extraordinary. Tina is behaving perfectly. She is taking it all in and yet saving judgment until she has all the facts. I think that Tina is finally coming to terms with the last few days and her one true self. Awesome to read how these gals are coping with these life changing events. More please. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
What is this about ducks and controversy? O.o
Just got home from my clinical and have to eat and head to school so I’ll read this later, but I’m sorry to see you chickened out about the ducks.
Hey there Mate! I admit I’ve been horrible about commenting lately, but I’ve followed your story faithfully. You know I am in awe of yoru writing, I just love it, so much comes through in each post. The dialog is intense, but we’re used to that with ya! LOL! *HUGS*…thanks for this perfect post!
Very moving, jo..
I can almost feel Bette’s pain…
WOW!!!! That was very powerful!!!! Thank you Jo
Very deep and fruitful. Tina understands Bette a little more now and is able to be there for Bette when she leans on Tina for comfort.
Emotional !
While I’m sorry not to have learned more of Bette’s mother, I found this particulary resonant. I’v always found nature something that could impact me beyond the scope of words, but having found one dear who reveled in the birds and butterflies, to see such things now just bowl me over. And your chapter brings that all to mind.
Can I just say, that I love that after reading the chapter, your reader feels as emotionally-drained as Bette and as eager to continue learning more about each other as Tina. Wonderful stuff, Jo.
Wow, that is really powerful insight to the mind of Bette Porter. Must be really hard never to have had someone to open up to and to have never cared about it before. Still curious to who hurt her in the past to have her totally close down.
That was deep. She has been doing a lot of thinking since before meeting Tina. Tina is so very understanding. thanks
Jo, I tried to find the next page and it wasn’t their. This story just keep getting better. The dialog between the two is intense. Bette trying to convey to Tina how important she has become to her in such a short time, and at the same time letting go of some of the ghosts that haunt her. Tina being confused but not. Its all changing just as fast for her but in a different way. We have fatih in you Jo that they will reach a complete joining of mind, body, heart, and soul.
I wasn’t sure if you were kidding or not, so here it is LOL. Ahhh lovely mate…so full of emotions, so beautiful… and if you will excuse me now, the loo is calling my name LOL. xx
Another great update. I think they should just stay in the tepmle forever, why go out into the big bad world? Stay in your happy place ladies!!
hey, i loved the ducks, it was right that there ducks on the lake!!!! geez there’s always some clown pulling a downer…it was a beautiful scene and so was the church/temple/bette disclosing her inner self…great stuff.
