Lily turned as she heard Bette’s words, “I’m sorry dear…, it was never your mother’s intention or mine to exclude you from it, there were thoughts of protecting you, not wanting to let something like this impinge on your life…” Lily said, “she always said that you had a life to lead and she didn’t want anything to intrude on that important time of your college years and when I tried to explain that you would want to know, she fought me telling me it was her wish…”
“I just…, I think I’m old enough to cope Lily, and I would have liked the opportunity to be there for you and support you…” Bette said, not knowing whether she would ever be able to fully portray her feelings.
“Sweetheart, you have been there for me more than I could possibly put into words and more than you will ever know…, I had to do this in my own way, and if you don’t understand that at the moment, I’m sure you will one day…, as for your support and being there…, you are here, you are always here…” Lily said quietly as she placed her hand on her chest.
“I’m going to be here every moment Lily…, not just on the end of the phone, I’ll be here every day…”
“Nonsense…, there is absolutely no need for that, I’m not an invalid my dear child, you need to carry on with the life you lead…, and if I need you I will call you, just like I do now…”
Bette smiled at this woman’s stubbornness, “do you know how much I love you Lily?”
Lily smiled gently as she leant her head back on the rocking chair, “I `think I have an idea…”
“Well, let me clarify for you, just in case…” Bette said gently, wanting to make her point without bullying tactics, “you really are the most important person in my life, you have loved me, guided me, held me without question and been a stable figure in a questionable existence, you are the one person who has never judged me. The love you have shown me has been unconditional Lily and I am so grateful that you are a part of my life…, and now we have to face a…, a…, situation…, whereby that time…,” the words caught in Bette’s throat as she spoke, “…, I’d like to be by your side Lily, to give you back some of that love that you have given me…”

Great update…short update!..lol..I think we all need “a Lily” in our lives at some stage..understanding but unintrusive,yet always a presence..what a lovely lady!…looking forward to the weekend then! cos you promised the next chapter…lol

I just love Lily! I agree with B, that everyone needs a Lily in their life. I’m glad I have a couple of beautiful flowers that accompany my life. This story only gets better, and to be a little selfish, I am GLAD you will have more time to write this weekend. We will get more of this story, and I would never mind another Levi Tina situation either!!!! Thanks Jo! :- )
Love this story. Its really heavy though.. the whole cancer storyline is tough to read. I’m glad that Lily is continuing to push Bette towards Tina. Those two kids need to work their shit out. They were having so much fun when they first met.

I am so heartbroken for Bette that she is going to lose her Lily after losing her Mom. I hope that Tina can get past all her recent difficulties with Eric and the cancer scare and let Bette in to help her deal with all the aftermath.

Thanks to Lily for keeping Bette stable. I am sad that Lily will not be around much longer. It is through Lily that Bette has become the woman she is today. What love Bette has learned has come from Lily.
Hello Jo, Brilliant to have you back posting this wonderful tale. I just love how you capture the intensity of the emotions being played out. Bette is split in two right now. She wants to be there and be strong for Lily yet she wants to run away to find and comfort Tina. Now Tina and Bette need to sort through the revelations of the last few days. They do belong together. Just make it so. Thank you for this magnificent melodrama. You make me happy and sad; angry and relieved. Jo, you have the gift of making your reader feel the reality of each situation.
