    “Lamenting”–a script for Season 2 episode 1, part 1

    Tina:

    You did?

    Alice:

    Indeed…

    Tina:

    (exasperated)

    Oh for Christ’s sake, Al…

    Alice:

What? I had to do something. I couldn’t just stand by and let that harpy suck Dana dry.

    (Tina walks off, obviously disgusted)

Scene 14: Public park, outskirts of Los Angeles, afternoon

(Bette and Candace pull in, park, and exit their cars)

(Candace goes to the back of her Chevy and takes out an exquisite looking bow and a quiver of arrows)

(Bette approaches her, looking very apprehensive)

    Candace:

    Ever shot before?

    Bette:

    No, I can’t say that I have.

    Candace:

    Best thing in the world…

(Both walk off towards an archery range in the distance)

(Focus in on Bette’s face, contorted with utter discomfort)

(As they arrive at a target station, Candace sets down the quiver and turns to look at Bette)

    Bette:

I have no idea how to do this.

    Candace:

Don’t worry. It’s not about being good, it’s about focus.

(Candace nocks an arrow, squares up, shoots, and hits the bullseye on the distant target)

    (Bette raises an eyebrow, impressed)

    Candace:

    Your turn.

    Bette:

    No. I don’t know how.

    Candace:

    I’ll show you.

(hands Bette the bow and then steps behind her to show her how to hold it)

Okay, stand like this…left hand there…here’s the arrow…load it on the string…steady the tip on the arrow rest…take your right hand and pull back…keep going…there, did you feel the tension give a little?…now you’re set. Can you see the target?

    Bette:

    Yes.

    Candace:

Look down the arrow shaft and line the tip up with the bullseye. And now, visualize the arrow hitting the center. Don’t think about your hands, just see it fly and hit in your mind. Release it when you are ready.

(Bette is unsteady. She releases the arrow and it flies hopelessly off course and sticks into the ground in front of the target)

    Bette:

    *****…I can’t do this.

    Candace:

Yes you can. Here, try again. This time, don’t fight the bow.

Be sure with it. It’s yours to bend, yours to maneuver…

    (Bette reluctantly squares up again)

    Candace:

See the arrow fly and hit. Will it to hit the target. Don’t focus on anything else. Release when you are ready.
