LAMINGTON AKA LAMBENT 2.34-2.99
QUINCY
Go ahead and smack it off. I can take it.
Kit raises an eyebrow, looks at Quincy skeptically, and settles back into her chair.
EXT-JENNY AND SHANE’S PLACE (BACKYARD)-NIGHT
SHANE’S having a beer. SHAY’S having a root beet. They have a blanket down.
SHANE
Want a sip of my beer?
SHAY
I’m just a kid.
SHANE
(smiles and laughs to herself)
Oh, my bad.
SHAY
Yeah, I want a sip.
SHANE
Okay, just one sip alright?
SHAY
Alright.
SHANE hands Shay the beer and he takes a sip and spits it out.
SHAY
That’s disgusting. You actually like that?
(hands the bottle back to SHANE)
SHANE
(cracking up laughing)
You get used to it after about a hundred of ‘em.
SHAY
When’d you first taste beer?
SHANE
I was about your age when I started drinking.
SHAY
Tell me about when you were a kid.
SHANE
When I was a kid, I was a lot like you, quiet, sort of shy, but a charmer. (gives Shay a playful push on the shoulder)
SHAY
(quiet)
Dad told me you were in foster care. Were you sad a lot?
SHANE
(swigs beer) I was.
SHAY
Because of Dad?
SHANE
(sighs) (thinking of the right thing to say) Shay, (pause) I love our Dad because if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have each other.
SHAY
Shane?
SHANE
Yeah, Shay?
SHAY
Please don’t let anyone take me away again.
SHANE
Shay, I will do my best to keep you. I will do everything that I can.
SHAY
(hugs Shane tight around the waist)
Do you promise?
SHANE
(kisses Shay on the top of the head and hugs him)
I promise. I promise.
INT-BETTE’S HOUSE-DAY
BETTE is working on her laptop and having her morning coffee. Someone’s ringing the bell. BETTE goes to the door. BETTE opens the door. TINA’S standing there with Angelica who holds a copy of The Portrait of An Artist As A Young Man.
ANGELICA jumps up into BETTE’S arms.
BETTE
What are you reading, sweetie?
ANGELICA
James Joyce’s semiautobiographical account of a rebellious childhood subsequently leading into his uncanny but likely metamorphosis into one the geniuses of your former generation.
BETTE
Sounds very interesting, baby. Why don’t you go get yourself a snack. There’s some fruit salad in the fridge. Say Bye Bye to Mama T.
ANGELICA
As-Salaam Alaikum.
BETTE and TINA share a confused look as Angelica levitates and glides across the air into the kitchen.
BETTE
Portrait of An Artist? We definitely have to schedule an appointment for Angelica to see a shrink.
TINA
And soon. (beat) (reluctantly and carefully) Bette, I want to tell you that I don’t judge you for what happened with Shane or Candace.
BETTE
Look. Don’t worry about it Tina. I may have overreacted.
TINA
I know you’ve been hurt and we both understand that it’s never easy to accept that fact that someone you love has shared such an intimate part of themselves with someone else. It hurts.
BETTE
I know. That’s why I really need to make it up to Jodi, do something that will show her that I’m committed to her and this will never happen again.
TINA
(quietly)
What do you have in mind?
BETTE
I’m going to…
Bette struggles to get the words out.
BETTE
I’m going to ask her to marry me.
TINA
(shocked and attempting to conceal her disappointment) Wow! Congratulations! I mean, are you sure?
BETTE
Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking. I love Jodi and I know she loves me. Her reaction to what happened with Shane proves it. I’m going to buy a ring and propose.
TINA
That’s amazing Bette. I’m happy for you.
TINA walks over to BETTE and gives her a huge hug.
CUT TO:
Close Shot of TINA’S face which shows her disappointment and concern.

It’s about time you continued this! You have thrown a few more wrenches into the works here, though. I think this is a transitional chapter to get us to some potential drama–am I right?PPS!
Geez, that Angelica is a mart kid. How old is she here. Please don’t let Bette marry Jodi..
It’s great to see others writing L word scriptfic. Keep it up.
