Let It Happen – Chapter VI

He showed her a picture of Bette, but it wasn’t Bette.  The woman had reddish hair, in a straight bob cut, and darker eyes.

Tina glanced at the man of the front desk, and saw an imperceptible shake of the head.

She pretended to look closely, then answered, clearing her throat, ”Ah… no, no I don’t.”

“So just you in here, then?” He asked again, nodding at the single breakfast setting by the terrace.

“Umm… yeah, just me,” Tina stammered.

“Nothing in here!,” they heard one of the men call out from the main bedroom.  A second man was peering around the second bedroom, which Bette and Tina had barely walked into ever since their arrival.

“Think it really is just her here, man… this room hasn’t been used at all.”

“What is it that you’re looking for, exactly?,” Tina asked, with as much irritation as she could muster, even if she was nervously churning inside.

    “Pictures.”

    “Pictures?”

“Yeah pictures, or a thumb drive or something that could hold those pictures.”

    “Pictures of what?”

“Some old paintings or some such thing”

    “Paintings?”

“Yeah… paintings.  Are you going to repeat everything I say?,” he asked, with some irritation of his own.

“Well, I will until I can figure out what the hell you guys are talking about!,” Tina spat back, angry now.  And confused.

“Look here… we didn’t mean to upset you…”

Tina’s phone rang.  It was sitting on the breakfast table, and she walked rapidly to it, to pick it up.  The man walked quickly to it along with Tina, and looked over her shoulder as she turned it up.

It was Aaron, from Shaolin Pictures.  The man shrugged and walked away.

Tina tapped a code in, and thumbed the glass to answer the call.

    “Hey,” Tina said, without preamble.

The man continued to talk, “We’ll just look around a bit more, then we’ll be off”

Aaron’s voice came online, “Who the hell is that?”

“Nothing, nobody,” Tina answered, glaring at the man, as he turned to glance back at Tina.

“Look, Tina, we have an angel investor!  He’s coming in to fill out the financing we need.  So it turns out we’ll be able to shoot scenes in Paris after all!”

“Yeah?,” Tina asked, without enthusiasm, her  eyes keeping tabs on the men who were wandering around the suite, flipping pillows, looking under furniture, and pawing through the clothes hanging in the closet.
