Let It Happen – Chapter XI

Tina yearned to reach out to her, draw her into an embrace, feel her warmth.

Instead she continued to talk from the heart, before she lost her nerve, “I’m sorry that I hurt you. I’m sorry about using your leaving me here in Paris that early morning, against you.  I’m sorry.  So sorry.”

She couldn’t bring herself to say the biggest thing she was sorry for.  She could barely say anything else, and was crying now.  She gripped her forehead.

Bette bent at the waist, sobbing, face buried in her hands. Her shoulders shook.

Just say it, Tina! Tina was telling herself.  She drew another breath, and steeled herself.

“And Bette,” she begged.  “Please, please look at me.”

Bette turned her head, tears streaming down her face, one hand still supporting her head.

“I’m sorry for cheating on you.  I know I broke your heart.  I know I broke us.  I know that I may never see you again, after this.”

She weakened, slightly, “Bette, I’m sorry.  I’m so very sorry.”

“Please…,” she was about to say, “forgive me,” but caught herself.  She realized that she had no right. No damn right to ask Bette for anything.  Especially forgiveness.  Bette would likely forgive her, if she asked her, while the brunette was like this.  Vulnerable. Defenseless against the raw emotion overcoming her.

No, Tina told herself.  I would have to earn that.

Bette looked away, sat back up, leaned her head, and grabbed her head with her hands, eyes shut.  Her scarf had fallen away, slipping down to her lap.

Instinctively, Tina reached over to grab the scarf before it fell any further.  She shook it out, then covered Bette with it, tucked the long edge of the scarf into her blouse to secure it.

As she did her fingers brushed the base of Bette’s neck, grazing the pulse point there.

She felt a jolt of electricity at the skin-to-skin contact, and heard Bette draw a quick breath in at the same time.

Tina swallowed. She longed to run her fingers again over that silky soft skin, and her eyes lingered on the long, elegant neck, now stretched out because Bette’s head was still drawn back.  Her gaze ran up to the smooth curve of her jaw, up the pillow soft lips, which were parted.

    1. Oh my, this chapter was so painfully sad to read, I’m feeling quite emotional right now – as I’m feeling too in my life currently…
Amazingly enough, I always seem to choice the stories I read or movies I watch or even music I hear following my heart and mind’s state and that’s both a curse and an addiction, I’m afraid,,,
Anyway, I’ll follow you anywhere because of your talent – and I’m confident for my dearest two, the way I was during all these cruel seasons 3 and 4 of The L Word at the time, hoping each year that my Tibette’s heart will stop to suffer !! Well, what can I say ? I’m a hopeless romantic – for the best and the worse,,,

    2. Hello, again.

Yes, this the valley that they had to get through, in order to reach the peaks of their relationship. Sometimes, as a reader, you do wander into stories that feel familiar, so I know what you mean when you say that your heart and mind are tuning into these types of stories if there’s something in them that feel familiar.
I hope you stick it out and read the rest of this book, though, because your belief in romance will be repaid, trust me!

      Take care,

      S
