Let It Happen – Chapter XIII
Sarah continued, “I caught part of your argument in the stairwell of the last apartment that we all saw together, and how you thought Bette was stepping out on you with me.”
Tina said nothing, looking back at Sarah with sharpening eyes.
“I’ll tell you straight-up that it was me. I admit I made a pass at her, “ Sarah held up her hand when Tina was about to say something, “But I only did so because I noticed that you were neglecting her. When she shook me off, it was pretty swift. No ifs or buts: she put me down hard. I respected that, and I very much respected her.”
“On the other hand, you’ve only been able to go to these showings once, and you’ve never joined us whenever we headed out to grab a drink after the showings, or dinner at other times.
Tina continued to be silent, looking at her steadily.
“In fact, if I had to guess, I’m pretty sure I’ve had dinner and or drinks with your girlfriend more often over the last month, than you have had with her over the last three or four.”
“Am I right?” Sarah asked, challenging Tina. No response from Tina.
She continued, “Do you know why it’s taking so long to find a place? It’s because you don’t want to. I’ve dealt with many clients, Tina, and I know when it comes to couples, if one of the partners is reluctant, it’ll never happen. ”
“If I didn’t care about Bette…. and believe it or not…about you, because Bette cares so much about you… then I really would have stopped this process a long time ago. Dropped you girls like a hot potato. Truth be told, I’m neglecting my other clients…clients, by the way, who are paying me…since this is something that I’m doing for you girls for free. It’s true, there are others in my firm who are covering for me with them, but in most cases, they prefer to deal with me.”
“Look , Sarah…,” Tina started to talk.
“Don’t explain, Tina. There are no excuses. This is serious. I’m serious. I’ve been there. I’ve been in your position.”
“Make it go away. End it. Do what you need to do.”
