Let It Happen – Chapter XIV

(Late February, a little over a month after Chapter XIII)

    ”Are you sure, T?”

Bette and Tina were downtown, mounting the steps of a modernist building in the West Village, off of Washington Square, heading towards the clinic that Tina’s gynecologist had recommended they consult with.

They were planning to have a baby.

”I am, Bette,” she said with a smile, and then turned to look at the brunette, eyebrows raised, questioning.  ”You? Having second thoughts?”

”No, no,  I’m not,” Bette smiled back quickly, opening the main door of the building for Tina. ”I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable about the whole thing.”

”Well, I am, so don’t worry about me,” Tina responded, smiling her thanks to Bette, then rushed ahead to hold the elevator door that was just opening, for them.  She waited for Bette to step into the elevator, then hopped in quickly after her, just as the elevator door was whooshing shut.

    Tina punched the floor number.

”This is just another check-in appointment, anyway. It doesn’t commit us to a time-line or anything, right?” Bette said, sounding like she was reminding herself, more than she was Tina.

”Right,” Tina shook her head and smiled.  Bette’s controlling nature could be tiring at times, but at other times, quite endearing. Bette didn’t like to wade or enter into things that she didn’t analyze every angle for.  Except for falling for Tina, maybe.  She probably couldn’t have run a decision-tree sequence or management chart for that bolt of lightning, Tina thought, smiling to herself.  She looked over at the brunette fondly, who also seemed lost in thought.  As always, Tina felt a certain tingle when looking at Bette, or standing next to her.
She is still the sexiest thing on legs.  And I love her so.

Now, having a baby?  The angles for that were endless, Tina mused, continuing to smile while affectionately caressing her partner’s back as they rode the elevator up.   A multi-layered, multi-angled puzzle Bette was clearly still trying to wrap her brain around.  No wonder Bette seemed slightly nervous.

They opened the door to the clinic.

”Hey!,” a cheerful woman looked up from a folder she was studying, greeting Bette and Tina as they entered.  ”How is the most stunning couple in midtown this morning?” she asked, teasing.
