Let It Happen – Chapter XIV
Tina was beginning to shake her head, “No, no Tina. Let me do this.”
He continued to soothe her, and then said, “But you’ll need to tell her soon.”
“It’ll be worse if she finds it out from someone else.”

That Saturday, Bette woke up early in the morning. She bounced out of bed in a joyous mood. Tina has been just the kindest soul, lately. Today is the day I will surprise her, with the biggest surprise of her life!
She checked the weather report again. There was a break in the winter weather, and the sun was going to be high today. Whoo!, Bette thought. A nice walk through the snow in the park. Hmm, maybe a snowball fight?
Then she was going to pop the question, when they got to their favorite Central Park bridge, framed against the beautiful blue winter sky, and the fabulous Manhattan skyline surrounding them.
But, first: breakfast!
She pulled out the waffle maker, put some coffee on, then whipped a batch of waffle batter, and poured some on the waffle maker. She padded to the media room, put on some music, then walked back to the kitchen. She found some strawberries, and began to slice them. She heard Tegan and Sara’s infectious song start. She smiled, Tina loves that song!
Over in the bedroom, Tina heard the initial bars of the song play, and woke with a smile on her face. She took a peek at the windows, and saw sunlight spilling into the bedroom. She heard Bette singing out in the kitchen. Last night, Bette had mentioned wanting to go on a stroll in the park if the weather held up. Judging by the racket she was making in the kitchen, Tina thought it was highly like that they were, indeed, going to take a stroll out today.
She laid her head back into the soft pillows, hugging them close; taking a deep breath of the one Bette had slept on. Bette, Bette. I love you. So much.
She heard another song come on, one of Bette’s favorites this time.
Bette heard Tina stirring in the bedroom, and decided to try a sneak attack on the sleeping blonde. Wake her with a tickle?
She opened the door quietly, and saw Tina’s arm go around the pillow that she used, and hugged it tight. Awww… she really is the sweetest!
The Sharleen Spiteri song was playing. Bette bounced on the bed, singing out together with the song as she sought to find Tina’s tickle spot, “Oooohhhh… why do you always keep me waiting… when I’m falling for you…oooohhh”. Tina shrieked, as Bette dug under the sheets.
Victory is mine, she thought. Found the tickle spot.

After reheating the waffles that had gone cold while they’d made love, then polishing them off, Bette and Tina walked out into the nippy air.
“Perfect day, huh?” Bette said, her eyes still sparkling from having successfully tickled Tina, made love to her until she cried out Bette’s name, then fed her breakfast. So far, so good.
They made their way slowly through the slick city streets, until they got to the soft, powdery snow that had fallen on the park all day yesterday, and into the night.
They were walking slowly over the path, approaching the bridge.
Bette felt her heard pound, and her hands grow clammy, under her gloves. They were now in the middle of the bridge, and in the exact spot that Tina said was the best one to shoot a memorable photograph from.
She was about to say something, when Tina stopped walking. Her head had been downcast, Bette noticed, and when she finally looked up to look at Bette, her eyes were filled with tears.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Bette asked, gently cupping Tina’s head between her gloved hands.
“Bette,” Tina’s lips were trembling, “I just want you to know that I have never loved anyone as much as I love you, and that no matter what happens, I will always love you…”
Bette smiled, “Oh, T, you know I love you too!”
Before she could say anything else, Tina cut in. “No…no Bette, you don’t understand. I … I have to tell you something. Something that’s really, really hard for me to tell you.”
Bette began to open her mouth, when Tina raised her hand, as if to ask her for patience.
Tina took a deep breath, and then said quietly, “Bette, I slept with Scott. We never got serious, but it did happen a few times.”
Bette turned away from Tina slowly, took a few steps, and then bent over clutching her waist.
