Let Me In – 4
"This doesn’t change anything, you know." Tina softly told her daughter, watching Angelica sleep peacefully beside her on the bed. "Deep down she’s still your mother. I just don’t know if I’m still her wife."
Tina glanced around the guest room. Only months ago she had been here, as a houseguest. At least then it was still painfully evident that Bette still loved her. Now here she was, back where she started. And what did she have to show for it?
Her baby girl.
Tina briefly considered picking Angelica up and placing her in the crib, but decided she much preferred sleeping beside her daughter. To hear a heartbeat as she slept.
Tina studied her daughter’s face. She adored this little girl, and realized now what she had often wondered about, how parents could love their children unconditionally. Regardless of their actions. She knew, watching Angelica, that she would enjoy watching this girl grow up.
But then, there was still the matter between her and Bette. How do you begin to fix something when you don’t know what’s wrong?
Maybe Bette was right. Maybe she just didn’t love Bette anymore.
But that wasn’t it. This would be so much easier, so much simpler, if it was. She’d tried the same hypothesis once or twice in her head, but it didn’t fit. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t the reason. She loved Bette. She knew that. She just…
She didn’t know how?
Tina tried that thought on for size. For so long she had loved Bette, without reason, without condition. And it had backfired.
So she tried to ignore that love, to make it untrue. And she’d ended up right where she’d started, aching to be with Bette. Wanting to be held in her arms.
She had so much to understand, so much to figure out, and now it was all coming apart before she had the chance to.
She could not talk to her friends, they not only had their own problems. Oh, wait. That’s right: they were Bette’s friends. And having ceded her rights as Bette’s partner, she’d ceded rights to friends, well.
She could not talk to Helena, she already knew too much as it is.

Tiff- you keep on defending Tina/Laurel. LH is doing an amazing job with what she is given. I have even come to terms with IC. It doesn’t seem like JB did many scenes for S3 and you still have to do something with Laurel’s, Tina. So, my hopes are for them to get back together in S4(no one is pregnant now) and until then I have you and other fanfic writers to make me happy. post soon
Thank you Tiff for the story but I would also like to write thank you Seahurst for your comments cause that’s what people who defend Tina to the bone tend to do make Bette a monster in order to defend and offer apologies for Tina while she is just as much a monster in this entire mess. So Tiff while you will defend Tina until there is no energy left in your body realize that some viewers will continue to roast her over an open fire. C’est la vie…
i also love LH and tina… and tina can only say the lines she is given… and bette the same… i’m sure it pained JB to say to LH to get out of her bed… but it was bette to tina… and they are just doing their job…and these ASSHOLES who bash LH… well thye are fools… she is doing one hell of a job… and we can only hope and pray IC has a change of heart and gets them back together before we all say we have had enough… thanks for your story… please continue
Excellent read! But I agree w/Seahurst. It wasn’t easier for Bette to cheat than Tina. She did struggle w/her feelings but in the end she was succumbed by her desire. Tina doesn’t seem to be thinking too hard about sleeping with josh and now if the spoilers are correct, Henry. When Bette said to her “You don’t love me” Tina did that totally annoying thing of not answering…no response…that is totally infuriating. I have a little sympathy for Tina but that is due to your writing
I like the insight you’re involving here. Very clever. I like it.
Aww Tara. Always love the whedon language you slip into your stories.
Yeah, Tina’s beginning to find out what it is to be a grown up. It’s not enough to move away from the parents, get a job, pay the bills, although these things are part of it too. It’s having the guts to deal with the hard stuff, the scary stuff, and the ugly stuff, even when it’s within. And it’s time to move if she really wants to be with Bette.
Tiff – I’ve got your back. Although I absolutely HATE what IC and co. have done to Tina & Bette this season, I have to say I am a die hard Tina/Laurel fan too regardless. Thanks for the story…
hi tiff i love this story as i am a tina /laurel fan i also met laurel in preson and she lovely i just hope ic puts them back together in s4 and thanks for the story
Agree with your comments Tiff, the comments that have been directed at Tina/Laurel this season have been bloody obnoxious, the same also applies to other characters too. I think she is doing her best with what the writers have written for the character of Tina. I’m a optimist and I hope that it is not the end of Tina/Bette, I do think that the pairing of Tina/Bette,(Laurel/Jennifer) has got to be one of the best pairings for a couple in a TV show or film that I have seen. IMO they have more chemistry than the periodic table, do you not agree? Ilene knows what she has with these two, “magic” is the word I would describe for Tina/Bette. What is left for Tina/Bette with only 4 episodes left who knows, but you will not get me slagging off Any of the characters on the L Word this season. Artists can only work with what they are given, if the material is substandard it is going to show in their work. Sorry for the rant, that felt good to get off my chest.
heart wrenching. and totally messed up between b&t .thx for the story..love it.
Totally agree with all the other comments – even though I haven’t seen the series yet! But I too have found all the anti-Laurel comments distasteful in the extreme, and especially since Laurel is so committed to this programme. Others have said it before, but the on-screen chemistry between Laurel and Jennifer is second-to-none and I hope IC doesn’t destroy this partnership for ever, destroying the real heart of this series. Great story – though painful to read. Tibette for ever!
oh ye defender of tina/LH, iam with you :)thanks for this.
Laurel is working at a job that she loves. It pays the bills, What she is being paid for is acting a part. She is not Tina, that her job to be Tina. It is scarey to wake up one day and discover you are wrong, she will always loves Bette,Is so different to Love, than it is to be in love / Tina and Bette really really needs time alone to yell scream, to cry and to try to work on their problems. thanks
Yea, TD, keep defending Tina. Actually they both need to be in a locked room where they can not walk out on one another and get this thing all talked out. Tina needs to express her love for Bette and get help if she can not determine for herself why she wants a man. I really think she wants to be the Mom and let Bette be the Provider as she once was. I think Tina misses the protection that being with Bette gives and everything that goes with it. Now, you can rectify this by putting them together and getting them to talk about all of it. Okay?!!!!!!! Great job. Thanks for the post.
I think you really found a good reason for Tina’s action recently. I guess the problem now is that she can’t always do the pondering thing by herself. She should open up to Bette and discuss with her, if she really doesn’t want to lose her. Give Bette some credit!
Come on Tina, how hard is it to tell Bette, I love you and to touch her in some way? A caress of the arm, hold her hand, reach out and hug her. Tell her you want her and are afraid of losing her forever. Come on Tiff this has gone on too long, make her step up.
It made me smile to see that you are defending Tina. I personally think that both Bette and Tina have screwed up this relationship. In fact, if they worked as hard on fixing it as they have in screwing it up, they would live happily ever after! LOL So, defend Tina…cause in the end, I know that it is not Tina I am mad at…it is IC for making Tina say and do the things she does!!! This was wonderful to read, although I strongly disagreed with this…. “And cheating had not come as easily for her as it had for Bette.” – I think if you go back and watch season 1, you will see just how much Bette was slowly falling apart, and just how much of a struggle it was for her to finally cheat on Tina. In the end, she lost the battle, but I believe she fought it very hard. It’s not like she just ran to Candace laughing and gleeful. But, thanks for this!
i’ll stand by Tina and Laurel as well…she’s doing a great job of playing such a confused character…i hope it’s just a phase tina has to go through to find herslef and bette again…i hope in your story she will because in my mind it’s a prequel to Pick a part ;)
Oh man, this chapter broke my heart. Please make Tina go to Bette and talk to her…Please! Thanks for the chapter. Inspiration probably isn’t flowing freely given the rough seas of S3.
Good chapter and I agree with BetteAndTinaForver and let see what’s next, thanks!
