    Life: Altered 03.21 ~*~ Alice/Quin

“You are supposed to ask me
something now, this is the getting to know you stage.”  Alice said and Quin grunted.  What in the world, could she ask Alice that she already didn’t know?

“Pets?”  Alice grunted, thinking it was a cop out
    question.
    Alice
shrugged, thinking it was better than
the silence.  She pursed her lips.

“Nope, had a cat once, her
    name was Ophelia.”  Admitted Alice
, staring at an old purple house with
dark blue shutters, quickening her pace for some reason, passing the house
quickly.  Tossing one look back at it and
Quin gave her a funny look.

“Oh, sweet.”  Quin said, as they moved from the lower end
houses to the mansions, high-end cars parked in the driveways and gold trimmed
railing on the homes.  Servants with
windows open, cleaning and shaking out carpets and sweeping the stoops.

                “Wow, look at these places,
they are huge and expensive.”  Alice
said, flabbergasted at the sheer size of
the homes.  They had servants, they
didn’t call them maids here, and they were servants.

                “I like the Quarter better,
down to earth people.  None of this
pompous mansion *****.”  Quin offered up
    and Alice
chuckled, looking over to see Quin’s
ankh hanging at her breast, shimmering in the sunlight.  She never took it off; it was always hanging
there, shining, and representing something to Quin that must have been close to
    her heart.

                “I know nothing about you
Quin, other than you play with the passion of person possessed, write songs
that dig into my soul and are the most mysterious person I know.”  Alice
admitted suddenly; and Quin let out a small
    laugh.

“You just don’t know me, when
you know me, I won’t be a mystery and the allure will be gone.”  Quin stated dramatically, Alice
grabbed her hand.  Standing toe to toe with her, staring into
the emerald green abyss of her eyes.

“Is that what you think?  That when I peel the layers away, I won’t
like what I find?  You are so wrong.  The layers are still there to admire, I just
want to see them all, the layers that is.
    Every little nuance and detail.”
    Alice
said her voice deep and filled with the
passion that had been building up for the last few weeks towards the young
    guitar player.

“Did you get that from Shrek?”
    Quin asked, blinking and Alice
slipped into a smile, Quin smiled too.  Alice was relieved that she hadn’t tucked tail
and run away, instead, she’d made a joke, great progress.

“We should head back, we have
to make it to New York
by 7, and our reservations are for 8:30.”
    Quin said, and
    Alice
realized that she’d always intended to
    take her to
    New York
    .  The
barb about perhaps being able to stand her company was just that, a diversion.

“It’s only 3.”  Alice said, looking at her watch and wishing
for more time in this charming city.  She
hadn’t even scratched the surface of this place, and Quin’s obvious connection
    to it.

                “Time change, we are running
from the sun my friend.”  Quin said,
    giving Alice
a small grin and Alice thought for a moment.  “Nice line.”
    Alice
said, as Quin crossed the street, and Alice followed, reaching for and grabbing
Quin’s hand.  Quin didn’t pull away, she
    adjusted her grip, and
    Alice
    smiled.

“Better remember it huh?”  Quin said, and they walked the rest of the
    way in a comfortable silence.
