Life and Love and Why – 30
It had all started to quickly unravel at that point, the Tina-free life she thought she was happily living.
"It’s not personal."
Bette started, and turned to the woman sitting on the chair beside her.
Mrs. Kennard glanced briefly at where Tina and Angelica were standing just outside the hospital room of Tina’s father, before she turned back to Bette. "It’s nothing against you, personally. I’m confident you’re a completely respectable individual."
Bette lifted an eyebrow.
"Christina loves you, that much is clear. That usually merits enough credibility to assure us that you are worth knowing." She said gently. "I have no doubt that you love her."
"Then why give her such a hard time?" Bette asked in a low whisper. "What you said at dinner… those hurt her a lot."
"I was merely stating truth, Bette."
"Well, there’s a more tactful way to say it. And you didn’t have to cut her out for ten years to make a point." Bette returned. "Don’t hurt her just because you don’t approve of the relationship."
The older woman sighed. "You don’t understand."
Bette glanced at her.
"I have issues with what your relationship represents."
Bette frowned, wondering if talking while delivering cryptic messages was a family thing. "Represents? You mean that she’s not the little girl you sent away to college? Or that she’s a lesbian?"
"The former, mostly." Mrs. Kennard looked at her. "I admire the woman that she is. But she’s become so different…"
"You said I took her away from you. You were the one who—"
"I know my daughter. She’s stubborn, but she wouldn’t have stayed away this whole time on her own accord."
Ah. "So you think I had a hand in it?"
"Didn’t you?"
Bette would have laughed, if only the situation weren’t so serious. How was she supposed to tell this woman that it was she, in fact, who would constantly ask Tina if she wanted to go see her parents? Having lost her mother, and having a strained relationship with her own father, she’d always felt that Tina owed it to herself to have a relationship with her parents. This was almost always met with a cold silence, a frustrated sigh, or a wary look, that stubborn streak showing at the worst times, and Bette had learned to make that inquiry come much less frequent than she wanted.

Wishing you luck Tina. With that mother you are going to need it. That and maybe a shot of tequila first.
Well played Bette! “Be careful”, something you really shouldn’t have to hear when approaching your mother, how sad! Be strong T! PPS!
intrigue, can’t wait for the next. PPVS
Oh boy – I feel as though Tina is walking in to the lion’s den. Protect your heart Tina! PPS.
Battle royal coming right up. …Maybe it occurred over dinner. This might be the rapprochement.
Oh wow Tiff, it looks like next chapter might be the one I’ve been waiting for where Tina gets a chance to talk to her Mom without everyone else around and gets to say what she really feels. I also really liked the fact that Bette had a few words with her Mother…alone. Maybe they will resolve some things and maybe they won’t, but it will allow both of them to tell the other what they haven’t said for 10 years. Amazing update Tiff!
Add another family member to Angie’s winning column. Now that is 4 of the family Kennard that she has won over.
Love Angie, so cute and sweet. Ok now the mother and daughter’s talk, let see the battle coming please, thanks!
Can’t wait for this whole mother-daughter thing to be somewhat resolved. Can’t wait for the next post, as always! Thanks Tiff.
I just knew Angelica would be the only one that would be able to charm the pants off Mrs. Kennard and melt her hard heart. Cathy is next. Hope Tina is very careful in her dealings with her mother. Angie has broken the ice now Tina just has to make the patch hold, hopsefully Mrs. K won’t give Tina a hard time because she will render permanently that tenuous that Tina still has with her and Tina will never speak to her again. Awesome chapter. Thanks for posting.
Wow, great story. I can’t say I’m surprised. Haven’t been on the site in some time but had a yearning to read some of the old classics as I think of them in my head and of course your stories were on the list. Reprise, Here’s to the Night, Just for A Moment, all good ways to indulge in my love for B&T. I guess I will have to download yours and other stories before they dissappear, like Don’t Panic and Giasony’s Denial I think it was called. Anyway, loving this new tale and really curious as to what Tina’s sister’s deal is. You know IC gets alot of heat, well deserved, but she did something really good creating Bette and Tina. That forever kind of love that just won’t quit is rare and you capture it perfectly. I really like your Helena and Angie is stealing my heart too. Looking forward to your next post.
Where are you Tiff? I can’t wait for an update.
no one can resist angelica…cathy is the only one who hasn’t met her yet, i wonder how she will react…can’t wait to see all pieces falling into place
Sweet! I knew Angie could render anyone defenseless in the face of her charm. Bette and Mrs K seem to have cleared the air. Hopefully mother and daughter can do the same. Good luck indeed, Tina. Thanks, tiff!
Seems like someone is extracting their head from their rectum.
Yep, Angie the ice breaker. Grandma couldn’t resist that tiny little angel. OK.,T, let’s see if Mom is going to play nice now. At least Mrs. K and Bette didn’t strangle each other.
For the umpteenth time, you have given me a smile after a restless sleep. Thank you. Angelica is so sweet. I love B&T interaction, T&A interaction and even A&G interaction. Simple and true.
Well, let’s hope this conversation goes much better than the last one. I think having just met Angie will help and mostly the fact that Tina’s sister isn’t around will go a long way toward making this one better.
Well, darn! I was hoping you wouldn’t stop there, tiff. Angie is just too freaking cute!
Was hoping Angelica would melt her grandmother’s heart. Thanks for the update…pps
Great story, but I’d really like to see more progression on Bette and Tina’s relationship. Please update soon.
so Mother Kennard and Tina are ready for round 2..
Ah Tiff…another homerun of cuteness! How clever of you to tie Helena to Angie…”Loo?” Chuckle! You are such a joy to read! How bout some canoodling between T and B. C’mon…give us a little something in the love department. :)
Another great chapter!!! I am glad Bette and Tina’s mom talked. Now lets see what happens with Tina an her mother. Thank you
