Chapter 26
Bette was quiet all the way home. When they enter the apartment, Tina takes a hold of Bette’s arm and stops her, turning her around.
“Babe, talk to me.” Tina says worriedly. “I know you’re scared, but please talk to me. I can’t make it better if I don’t know what it is.” Tina says.
“Come sit with me.” Bette says and motion for them to take a seat by the kitchen table.
“Talk to me Bette.” Tina says as she put her hand on top of Bette’s.
“I feel like I’m getting a little obsessive about certain things. Like you and what’s going on with your health for instance. It takes a lot of willpower to not call you every hour of the day. That accident almost three years ago, is destroying me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m dwelling over them, I’ve moved forward and remembering them, honering them. It’s just that I’m just constantly reminded that I’ll loose, somehow I’ll loose everything. I’m so scared for that next phonecall that’s gonna be about you, hurt or worse. I hate feeling like this but I can’t help it.” Bette says as tears starts to stream down her face. Tina reach over and wipes some tears away.
“Oh babe, I’m sorry you’re feeling that way, but you don’t have to worry about me. Nothing will happen to me. I’m scared too, that something will happen to you as well. Life isn’t a certain thing. But we can’t live in fear, if we do, it will eat us up.” Tina says with a smile.
“I know, but still, it’s hard not to sometimes.” Bette replies.
“I intend to spend the rest of my life with you, and I’m planning on that being a very very long time.” Tina says and leans her forhead against Bette’s.
“I’m sorry.” Bette says between the silent sobs.
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll get through it. And soon it’s Christmas and I can’t wait to celebrate it with you.” Tina says trying to change the subject a little.
“I love you.” Bette says.
“I love you too. Just relax okay?” Tina whispers.
“I’ll try.” Bette replies, leaning in and kissing Tina softly.
“What do you say we order in tonight? I don’t feel like cooking today.” Tina says.
