    London calling to the underworld

    Come out of the cupboard

    Boys and girls

She hitched her jeans and strode purposely toward the Thames. Maybe there, she would find some inspiration to create.

This creative spark—which she had awoken with, like a buzz or a hum in her brain and through her limbs—this creative spark was gold.  She should do something with it. She would find what she needed by the river.

    London is drowning and I

    Live by the river

Strange demented bird sounds—were they coming from the trees or from the Clash?—made her look around, but she walked onward. To any who looked at her, (and there were many who did) she looked like a 20-something artist or student. Her hair was flying behind her, her jeans torn, her shirt faded green and splattered with black ink.

The Clash was finished singing about the flooding of London, and the Smiths came on next, singing London in a state of panic through her ears. Poor London, she thought. Sure enough, when she looked to her left, a small group of anarchist looking kids was gathering, protesting something and creating something else, all at once.  They were fixing a bunch of bikes, showing one another how to fit together parts.  They looked harmless, nevertheless, a few cops had already shown, looking menacingly at the young people. Helena shook her head, thought for a second about walking over to them, and then remembered her circumstances.  She also remembered that these young ones would probably think her the anti-Christ. She was a pretty big sell-out, afterall.

She sat by the river for a long time, her back shielded against a tree.  Perhaps she should make a twig picture, thrown on the water, to be swept away by the waves: she half-heartedly threw a few sticks into the water, laughing at her mockery of the creative process.  The truth was, she was feeling too lazy to create much of anything. Helena let the river take her mind away instead of concentrating too hard on trying to make something happen.

Later, she climbed the tree, and watched the river from there.  From this vantage point, she could also see the cops, the anarchist kids, a bunch of young heterosexual couples, a few parents, and a lot of grass.

    1. aw, hb, this is great, just loved it – the whole chapter, I love that they’re in London, just really beautifully written, thanks xx .. oh and pps?

    2. Evil, unethical, AND they burn their roasts. But the Clash is beyond reproach. So, London is still full of anarchists and anti-Christs. Somehow this is not a surprise. But I was shocked, shocked I say, at the thought of Helena climbing a tree. Your Alice was extremely Alicy in a sweeter way than we’ve seen her on the show in sometime, it was nice to see. You’ve already heard my concerns about hygiene, so I’ll forgo further comment about sex in public restrooms.

    3. To feel the connection to the woman she loved. That line alone made this story perfect. I love this story! I love the interaction between this group of friends. Their loyalty to each other is like a breath of fresh air. Thanks for posting so soon.

    4. Close your eyes and think of home. That being Helena of course. Thank you! I wanted Bette in London and what do you do? Bring the whole damn gang! Alice was spot on in this. I love the Helena/Alice friendship and it shone right through in this. You’re writing in such a pleasure. I wanna go out and download The Clash right now, London Calling. Great. Do we get sex in the next chapter? Please? Pretty please? And death to Starbucks. Preach it Alice! PPS.

    5. Finally!!! I caught up with the story!! I’m liking so far and I also enjoyed the lil’ snog that happened in the restroom, but I wouldn’t want to do that either..lol Oh well–you’re doing an amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens next with this two beautiful ladies, but don’t keep me waiting!!!

    6. Yay! They found her! What great freinds Helena has. I love Alice. She’s so damn cute and quirky. And there were some very nice moments between Bette and Helena. My favorite? The part where Bette ran her finger down Helena’s nose (I freaking love that woman’s nose!). It’s such a sweet, little gesture of affection. Oh yeah, and the sex was very nice, too. Short, but nice. More soon, please?

    7. wtf??? why doesn’t my comment appear? i wrote a longer one not just ‘The Clash’ :((((( Anywas, I’ll say it again: The Clash combined with Helena and Better and with a bit of Alice makes the recipe for the perfect chapter. And I also wrote that you should kick the others back to the states to let Be&Lena have some fun >:)

    8. oooo i do love london and im from the uk myself…haha why do they love the word twat?that amused me and how helena says knackerd is fabulous its so fuckin hott :)
