    Life:  Still Altered – 4.01

                Harlequin ‘Quin’ Peabody
stood in the house that she and Alice had
shared, happily, for over four years.  The
only things remaining in the house were the things in the kitchen, so Quin went
in there.  A deep sigh from the youngest
    of Peggy Peabody‘s
children, she arched her head, and looked up at the ceiling.  She’s not
    up there, Quin.  She’s gone.

                Yes,
she was gone.  Daisy was gone, Rosita was
gone, even Cassandra and Tina had left.  It was just her, all alone.

                “Harlequin?”  Peggy
said from the door, and Quin turned, tucking her hair behind her ear.

                “Mom, what are you
doing here?”  Quin asked green eyes
    bright with tears.

                “I am allowed to come
see my daughter, am I not?”
    Peggy
    shot back.

                “You came to make sure
I went to LA, and not to parts unknown, didn’t you?”  Quin shot back, but a smile lingered on her
    face.
    Peggy
removed her now famous flask from her bag, she took a sip from it, and Quin
rolled her eyes again.  Quin moved to her
mother, taking the flask and taking a sip herself.  “I’m going to LA, Mom.  I told you I would; I have six months left on
    my contract with”

                “This is most
certainly not about your contract with Peabody Enterprises!”
    Peggy
blared, and Quin looked down at her shoes sheepishly.

                “I know”

                “Are you sure, you
want to head up the newest section of PE?”
    Peggy asked.

“It’s music, and  I told her I would.”

                “Who?  Daisy?”
Peggy asked, Quin nodded.  “She’d understand, you know?  This means you will be working with Helena
    also, and Tina of course.”

“I’m going.  Now, why don’t you, and Jose,
get out of here, while I say good-bye to my former life.”  Quin waved to the door, and Jose
    waved back.

                “As you wish
    darling.”
    Peggy
leaned in, kissing Quin’s cheek.  “I
adore you, and this too, shall pass.”
Quin forced a smile, waiting for her to go.  Quin went to the sink, sliding down the front
of the cabinet and sitting on the floor.
Thinking, dying a little bit inside every moment that passed.  There was no way of getting around the fact
that she was no longer whole.
