Life with Mom and Tina Ch 13
“There are mattresses under all the beds that get pulled out in to the middle of the floor, and both of the couches pull out.” Tina said pulling Jess’s shoes off.
“I finally get what you meant by people sleeping everywhere.” Bette said as she put Jess’s PJs on her with the assistance of Tina.
“Where’s mom?” Tina asked.
“She went to bed. She spent the day with me and the kids at the beach and then took them to down to the River to see the shrimp boats come in. She was exhausted.” Hannah said.
“I bet she was.” Tina laughed.
“She will be up bright and early cooking breakfast.” Hannah said.
“Ooo” Tina said.
“What?” Bette said.
“Mom makes the best breakfast in the world.” Tina said.
“I think mom had the right idea by going to bed early, because Aunt Winnie, Lynn, Hazel, and their kids will be here around 9 in the morning.” Hannah said.
“Why so early?” Tina asked.
“They said they wanted to be able to make it to the beach tomorrow.” Hannah said.
“Then we better hit the sack here in a bit too.” Tina said.
“I think I am going to go now.” Bette said. Bette was exhausted she had to work all day on Friday and Saturday morning then didn’t get any sleep on the flight.
“Okay babe”
The Next Morning
Everyone sat around the large round table eating breakfast. Josie had cooked grits(the real thing not instant), eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, and gravy. All the kids sat next to each other. Jess sat between Piper and Tina.
“Moma what is this?” She said poking at the grits.
“Those are grits. They are good try them.” She looked at Jess scrunch up her face.
“Here you have to put cheese and butter in them.” Piper said handing Jess a slice of cheese. Piper was 12. She was glad to finally have another girl in the family because the rest of her cousins were boys. Piper helped Jess fix the grits the way she thought they were supposed to be eaten. In truth you can eat them any way you can.
“Tina don’t tell you have never fixed her grits before.” Hannah said in shock.
“No we can’t get them in LA. And besides she is such a picky eater I didn’t think that she would eat them.” Tina said putting a spoonful in her mouth. Jess was pushing hers around trying to decide if she was going to try them.
“Come on Jess they are good I promise.” Piper said. Jess finally got up the courage and put a small amount in her mouth. Everyone watched to see her reaction especially Bette who had yet to try them herself.

LOL Grits! It’s really amazing the number of people who actually don’t know what a grit is. Heck, I didn’t know until I moved soth myself. Loving your story – thanks!

Lovely chapter. Grits are great by whatever name. Love the story. Thanks for the post. Post again soon.
Jess is so cute. Love how she calls Tina, Moma. I’m sure Bette is waiting to see if her picky eater of a daughter is going to like the grits before she tries them. LOL. I, myself, have never had grits…so I’m waiting to see if she likes them too. ;-)
Great story! MMmm grits! Love ’em!
It sounds like Jess has found a friend in Piper…..more please….
Cute story, and what a houseful! [ ‘Grits’ = hot cereal made from ground corn. *Packaged grits are made from hulled corn which is why they’re white, not yellow. ]
Grits……somehow I can’t imagine Bette eating them, but if you call them POLENTA, well that’s another story LOL!!! good story.
