Tina reached over and stroked Bette’s arm “Babe, hopefully by tonight we’ll know what we need to do and you can get back to practicing at the club.”
“I lnow. And I appreciate everything your doing for me.”
Tina interrupted her. “I’m not doing it just for you. I’m doing it for us. I want us to be happy and free of having to worry about what he’s going to do.”
Bette nodded her head and took a sip of her juice, not immediately the recognizing the look of concern on Tina’s face.
She looked up at the quietness and took in Tina’s countenance, suddenly concerned herself.
“What’s the matter?”
Tina rubbed her forehead. ‘I just…I just don’t know if you’re ready for what will happen if your outed. You could lose your sponsors, your endorsements and all the positive interviews and media coverage you normally get. People you thought were your friends will suddenly not want to know you…”
Bette touched her fingers to Tina’s lips to silence her. “I have been thinking a lot about you. I know it will mean a lot of changes to my life. But all I can see are positives – as long as I’m winning, my sponsors will stay. They can’t not. I don’t need my endorsements but I also believe that while I may lose some, I might gain others. As far as interviews, you know how I hate them anyway and the friends I most value are the friends that will stay with me. If any leave because of my lifestyle, then it saves me having to find out who my real friends are later.” Bette watched Tina to see her reactions.
“Is there anything I’ve missed?” she asked teasing.
Tina smiled, relief evident on her face. “No, I think you’ve covered everything.”
“Good.” Bette said as she finished her juice and stood up. “Now I better go say goodbye to Katie and your parents.”
The two walked out together to the pool. The day was already starting to get hot and Katie and her grandparents were very comfortable playing in the pool.
“Hey Katie. I need to take off for tennis.”
Katie made her way out of the water and up to Bette. She looked up and gestured that she should come closer. When Bette did, Katie gave her a big wet hug, laughing uncontrollably at her joke and creating contagious laughter with the others. Bette stood up, brought her into her arms and swung her like she was going to throw her into the water. Katie screeched with laughter until Bette knew that she was going to be late or Katie was going to loose her breakfast.
“Are you gonna be here again tonight?” Bette gave Tina a quick look. “Yes honey she is.” Tina answered.
“Oh good. Can you sleep with me tonight instead of mommy?”
Tina snickered and Bette blushed, casting an embarrased glance to Tina’s parents who were also grinning. “Um, maybe Angel but you go to bed so much earlier than I do. I don’t want to keep you up.”
“Don’t you keep mommy up?”
This time Tina coughed in surprise. “Katie, Bette needs to get to work and your grandparents are getting lonely in the pool by themselves.”
Katie quickly looked at her grandparents and, giving Bette one last glance, grabbed another pool toy and made their way back to them.
“Mama and Daddy, I’ll be right back.” Tina said as she turned and followed Bette to the door.
Bette grabbed up her gear, then stopped to face Tina before leaving. She gave her a kiss and slapped her bottom. “So, do I keep you up?”
Tina gave her a coy smile. “You most certainly do but you know I love it.”
Bette hugged her. “l’ll be finished around 3.”
“I’ll be waiting. Hopefully with some news. Oh, and don’t forget to get your new phone from Dana.”
Bette nodded and reluctantly left Tina.

Very very nice chapter, Robi. I too love this story. And I love Bette’s new partner in crime, Ted, more and more. I have a feeling these two are going to get along very well.
It sunday and it must be scheduled posting of “love all” ah yes … woke up to find this. It one of this things I like about sundays ;-) great story and its certainly heading in the direction for a couple of drama scenes now…And when I am not following english football I am following Rugby, , I wont comment about the All Blacks. But will just say thanks for posting and I look forward to you next posting. If by the way you feel like treating your fans to another chapter before next sunday dont let us stop you ;-)
Bette’s tough,and Tina is even tougher, I have faith that they can handle whatever Jodi may try to throw they’re way. Katie is too funny.
Well, my team does not play rugby but they do play college football and we are doing okay. The Rainbow Warriors of the University of Hawai’i are hanging in there. I am getting really excited about all that is happening in this story. For once I see a happy Bette with friends and family around her. Nan has always tried to watch out for her but she could only do so much for Bette. Now Bette has a larger support system to help her kick what’s his face out of the husband/manager role for good.
I can feel it coming in the air tonight… The drama!
B4 I even go read the story I had a crack up about your comment about the ALL BLACKS!!!! I’m a kiwi who works at a ‘rugby’ school, imagine the drama!!! even my mom at 80 was wild especially at Graham Henry. Oh well, Hei aha (Never mind) as I said the Magpies won over the Chiefs but today lost to Auckland. But our team, the Magpies are heroes to us.Hope your heart has recovered. I thought the French played very well today but another loss to the POMS. I’m picking the Argentinians. I’ll go read the story now/oh yeah the Aussies trashed us at League 2day.

Hm, the image of Jody trussed to a court net and wearing nothing but that sleazy little mustache is nauseating, yet hilarious. Honey, though, is to good a coating. Tar and feathers all the way for him. I’m glad Bette passed Ted’s test with flying colors. (There was really no doubt of that though, was there?) Her wanting to have that talk with any of Katie’s potential future suitors was too cute. And I hope that Bette doesn’t feel she doesn’t measure up to Kate somehow… Tina needs to let Bette know there’s no comparison. Great chapter, Robi. Can’t wait for next Sunday. Thanks

Naked Jody…I’m glad I haven’t eaten anything because that’s just vomit-inducing.
That was very sweet sorry for busting you with the prenup thing :)love the way Tina’s parents are warming up to Bette. I know it’s not going to all be roses and sunshine Bette will probably loose a couple of people who are pretending to be her friends and sponsors who are afraid they will be tainted by a homosexual sports star but at least she will be able to drop that millstone that is around her neck into a very deep ocean. This is going to be a very long week have a good one.

Loved everything about this update. Tina’s parents being so adorable. Bette bonding with Katie. I’m a little nervous for shit to hit the fan soon..but hopefully whatever it is Bette and Tina work through it together. PPS.
