LOVE AND PRIDE Chapter 49
Bette finished tying back her hair as she watched the sleeping figure of Tina stir in bed before settling down again. They had talked most of the night about the two offers that Peggy had made to Tina.
Bette just wanted Tina to take the offer that made her feel the most secure and that would allow her to get on with studying for her degree and share her life.
Bette wrote a note for Tina that read “ You are so beautiful when you are sleeping. I love you now and forever “ B xx and placed it where she knew that Tina would see it when she woke up.
Downstairs Helena and Kit were sitting at breakfast – Helena was reading a newspaper and Kit was reading a magazine.
“Morning “ Bette sat down and reached for the coffee pot
“Hi – that coffee will be cold by now — I’ll go and brew a fresh pot. You want any toast Bette ?”
“No thanks – coffee and juice is fine for me for now. I might get something later “
Helena nodded and strolled into the kitchen leaving the sisters alone for the first time since Kit’s arrival. Bette picked up a section of Helena’s newspaper and studied it for a few minutes – awkward silences between her and Kit were a
rarity.
But if Kit continued to be such a jackass then Bette was not going to be the first person to make a move. Kit had expected Bette to speak first but as the silence grew heavier she looked up at her younger sister. Maybe she was Melvin’s daughter in more ways than one — silence was one of his weapons.
“You have changed so much since the summer “ Kit said
Bette looked up “ I know – I’m growing up “
“You have always been my shy little sister “
“I still am “
“No – you are a young woman – a very beautiful one at that “
Bette shrugged “ Matter of opinion “
“Trust me – you are “
“Tina likes how I look and that’s all that matters to me “

I really liked this chapter. Sometimes it’s nice to look from the outside in which is what happened here.
I agree with Lament. It was a very sweet perspective from Peggy and Melvin’s POVs… Very well done! And I really liked the last one to one between Kit & Tina. Kit’s justification for her behaviour kinda made sense. And apparently she’s trying… Ally, please tell Jo she is being missed as well! Very much so. Can’t wait for her return and what she has in store for us… And a collaboration, huh??? hmmm, interesting… Oh, and yeah I’m with you about Season 5, please give us Tibette!!! Thanks for the two chapters in a row, Ally, I have missed you this week!!! ;)
I just love this fic. Love the display of emotions. I also agree with Helena. When they fall, they are going to fall HAAARRRRRRRRRD!!!!!, but their LOVE will conquer all and reconnect them back together more loving and stronger than before!
I guess Kit grew up a little bit, too.
