Love and Pride Chapter 50
TUESDAY 6TH JAN 1987
Bette looked across at Tina and smiled at the sleeping blonde who was beside her. It felt good to be back in England and only 20miles from Lancaster. They had arrived in England the day before on board the Peabody private plane along with Helena, Melvin and Peggy.
The latter three were spending a few days with some of Peggy and Helena’s family. Bette and Tina had spent the night in a hotel before catching the shuttle to Manchester and picking up Bette’s car from the long stay car park.
Bette reflected that so much had happened in the month since they had flown from Manchester airport. The most important was obviously the change in Tina’s circumstances and the fact that they were driving back to the house they were going to be sharing.
After much soul searching and long talks Tina had decided to accept Melvin and Peggy’s offer of working for them for four years after she graduated Law school. She had also asked if she could work part time during the holidays for them in any capacity they saw fit. Bette was delighted with the arrangement – it meant real security for Tina – she would be so much freer than she had ever been.
And totally selfishly Bette rejoiced in the knowledge that working for Peggy would mean that Tina would be based in Boston all summer long.
Their relationship was stronger than ever – both of them had grown up since they had fallen in love. For Bette she had no doubts – Tina was the woman for her. She loved the stability that having a long term girlfriend gave her – being loved was the greatest feeling in the world and Bette always wanted to feel the buzz that she got every time she looked at the blonde.
Beside her Tina opened her eyes and sat up
“Hey “
“Hey – you okay?”
“Fine — how far away are we?”
“Half an hour I guess. We’ll dump our stuff and go straight onto campus to pack your stuff and hand in your keys. Tomorrow we’ll make a start on getting your room the way you want it “

I can see both sides of it. Right now I’m not comfortable with walking around holding hands with a woman or whatever. But eventually I have to deal with it, right?
Wish I’d found a Bette at university. Wouldn’t have minded a Melvin and Peggy, either.
I understand Bettes point of view, but she is still young and inexperienced – with time and love she will move on….and nobody is better than Tina to do it with!! Great story Ally – BTW what happened to Dylan visiting Helena for Christmas?? Helena deserves to be happy too (now that she is doing her homework LOL) More please…
Ah, they both deserve each other. And if Bette has any problems with verbalizing her desires and needs in public, I can help her with that.
yeh I am with Bette I dont know if I would be comfortable like that in public, But who am I kidding I will never find out, Great chapter as always

I have to say I’m with Tina on this one. I know it’s hard to get comfortable being the ‘other,’ but if you love your partner enough… you should want to show people that that love isn’t any different than theirs.
i agree, it’s been too long. They should go to their home and have sex right away….LOL
