“And the fact that we aren’t is on me, Bette …”

Bette shook her head. “No.”

She strode into the bathroom and retrieved her phone. She was tabbing through her contacts list as she walked back to the bedroom.

“Continuing like this is no longer an option. Our life together has been complicated by a lot of loose ends …”

“Bette, honey, I’ve been too busy, too busy to give you the love I wanted to give you, to support you …. I’ve focused on other priorities, apart from you.  The workload in the studio seems to have tripled, almost, much quicker than I realized …”

“No one’s more important to me than you, Tina… and we’ve worked hard on this relationship to get to this point. We can’t let everything unravel now … over a couple of stupid kisses with other people …”

She apparently managed to get someone on the phone. In a haze, Tina listened to her make arrangements for the four of them to go to St. Lucia.

The blonde shut her eyes and sat up to lean against the backboard of their bed. She cradled her head on her hands.

She felt the bed dip and sway when Bette got into bed again and then pulled on her wife’s legs. She opened her eyes and looked back into the determined eyes of her wife.

Bette straddled her and kissed her hard. “You do not have a defective, “cheating” gene that predestines you … us … to a behavior that will split us apart, Tina!”

She said softly, fiercely, “Our love is forever; for eternity. Silence that doubting voice in your head … you deserve the happiness we have been lucky to find in each other, my love.  We may have lost our way recently, but we are getting back on track – I promise you.  We’ll go away for a long- delayed, much-deserved family vacation tomorrow …”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes, tomorrow.”

“But, I have meetings, we’re having problems with that production …”

“We need this, T. As you said earlier … this is important.  Isn’t it?”

Tina bit down on a quivering lip. Nothing’s more important, Bette.

“Bette, I’m sorry; sorry about the kiss …”

Bette dipped her head to slowly, softly kiss those soft, warm lips.

“Day one of the “get-back-on-track” plan starts tomorrow …”

She slipped a hand between them, and brushed on the smooth, warming mound of her wife.

“Or tonight …”
