Love in Control – Chapter V – Kismet

“Well, if Rian and I will still together years from now like you and Bette are, after being together as long as you’ve been, I really hope we’ll carve out sexy time the way you and Bette did last night.”

Tina frowned a little. She picked up her handbag and extracted her wallet from it.  “Why would you question whether you and Rian would be together or not years from now, Jade?  Anything going on between you two?  That why you want to talk?”

Jad answered hurriedly. “No, Tina. Nothing’s going on.   We’re good.  Going really strong, actually.”

“Well. Good to know. I’m really happy to hear that, Jade.”  She flipped her wallet open to see what she had in it.

    “So what’s so urgent?”

“Do you have time to talk now?”

Tina checked her watch. “I do, Jade.  Don’t worry.  Bette and the kids are in the beach, and then they’re going out to join another family vacationing here for an all-day boat ride …”

    “You didn’t go with them?”

“No, unfortunately. Doing something work-related.  I found out one of the actors we’ve been trying to convince to sign up for an upcoming project is here on the island.  And I’m told there’s a chance that he and I could meet today, and that he could leave tomorrow, so …”

“Oh. Sorry to hear that you couldn’t spend the day with your family, Tina.”

She heard a sigh escape from her older cousin. “Thanks.  Bette told me not to sweat it.  But still – the whole point of coming here was to spend time together, you know?  Especially with Bette …”

“Um… maybe you could make it up to her later …”

Tina smiled at the thought. “You read my mind, cuz.  I am indeed planning a surprise for her later.”

She paused. “But enough about all of that. Why have you been so anxious, Jade?  And what is it that you need my advice about?”

She heard her younger cousin exhale nervously. “C’mon, Jade.  No need to be nervous.  You can talk to me … what…:

Jade cut in, finding her nerve all of a sudden. “Could you tell me what it felt like when you fell in love?

Tina smiled broadly. She was about to tease her younger cousin when she caught herself.  Wait, this feels like a pretty serious call.

    1. Tina still needs to learn how to unplug. It’s good to see her and Bette reconnecting, but really? Business on a romantic/family getaway? I hope this distraction is short-lived. Also glad to see Jade starting to get over her insecurities. It seems like she might actually accept that she is not her parents and is strong enough to do what is right for her. Well done.

BTW, I like the picture you attached. The tropical scene is a welcomed respite as winter rages on.

      • unplug: hmmmmm. what a nice idea. ???? (even “#SNOtoriousBIG” Jonas hasn’t stopped the work. Not complainin’ just sayin’. tina and I need to figure out how to turn that around.). Maybe next time. This time she has business to take care of that links to her story in the overall arc of this book.

Yes, love that pic. Thought it fit in this part of the story. A pre-Colombian bay near St. Barts that remains unspoiled. Hopefully forever.
