Love in Control – Chapter VI – Kissing

Bette chuckled. “Heard it was boys versus girls. Must have been fun!”

“It was. We waxed ‘em! Aerin is a demon on the links, Bette. Sank every pressure putt -”

“Cade said you played best ball?”

“Uh huh. Every now and then he would hit an amazing shot, and I guess he picked up on Mark’s frustration, so he did try to win a few holes for their team. At least in the front nine. In the end, we won by a pretty wide margin.”

    “He wants a rematch.”

“’Course he does. Aerin and I saw right through him, though. Still, gotta hand it to him. He set the rematch suggestion up pretty slickly.”

“Yeah? How did he do it?”

“Well, halfway through, Aerin and Mark had a side-bet going, and, at that time the teams were just about tied, but towards the last couple of holes, Aerin was wining by so much, I mean it was embarrassing. So she called the “mercy rule” on Mark.”

“Ouch! I bet that stung. Mark can be pretty macho.”

“Uh, huh. I don’t know what it is with you rich people. Can’t stand to lose, yet you double-down when you lose a hand …“

    “Us rich people?”

“Yes, you heard me.” Rian chuckled. Before Bette could retort, she added,“Whatever … anyway, as I was saying, Cade deftly maneuvered the situation so that he could rationally ask for a rematch because Mark deserved a chance to recoup his losses.”

    “Can’t argue with that.”

    “Exactly!”

    They shared a laugh.

“It’s not going to happen anytime soon, though. Aerin’s got a string of trips lined up – she told me privately that work seems to be the only solution to get over her memories of someone she’s never been able to get over…”

“Hmmm… could be Harley? We had a talk about that the other day…”

“I really don’t know. She didn’t tell me the woman’s name. Whoever she is, she did a real number on Aerin,” Rian paused. “You know, I once worked with someone called Harley. Unforgettable…”

Bette hummed. “Well … we all have one of those, right? The unforgettable ones?”

“Ri-i-i–ight,” Rian answered. “Speaking of my unforgettable one …”

“You mean the irresistible , tall, sexy, blonde stud with melting green eyes? Doesn’t take much to guess who she is,” Bette teased.

    1. I was relieved to read that Tina’s vacation distraction was well worth the interruption. Though I still question her doing business during family and couple time. Her sense of priorities might be her undoing one day. The scene when B&T are back in their suite after their evening stroll on the beach had me in tears. I was completely undone by the simple line, “…it hurts…” I could feel their mutual pain, regret, and hope at the same time. With Rian’s accident and prolonged recovery, I can see why she and Jade are unsure about the other and why their journey is taking so long. They’ve both been ready for a long time and are just now realizing it. I’m anxious to see how this all unfolds. Now for another glass of pinot.

    2. Chapter perfectly perfect!
Every detail you put to terms
an overview of the scene is amazing!
And our couple, my mother from heaven! It was sensational!
      The whole universe.
