Love in the South – Chapter 6

    Previously…

DANA:  Think about what I’ve told you.  (There’s a knock at the door.)  Shit!  There’s Alice.  Just remember, I love you guys and you’ll always have me in your hearts!

    and the tape went snowy

Bette and Tina are both crying their eyes out.

“I miss her so much!” Bette sobbed.

“I do to,” Tina cried as she embraced Bette.  “She was so right.  I kept shutting you out.  I threw away the best thing that ever happened to me.”  Tina sobbed harder.

“I tried to make things right, but I had already pushed you away.  So far away, you went to a man!”  Bette pushed away gaining her composure mixed with hurt and anger.

“Babe, I was wrong to do that and you didn’t push me to do it.  I did it on my own.  I cheated on you just like you cheated on me, but I took it one step to far and fucked everything up!”  Tina cried.  “I lost you forever!  You disappeared and everything went belly-up!  I woke up and realized I fucked up, but it was too late.  I left him and tried to find you.  I hired a private investigator, but got word that you had moved on and was happy.  So, I didn’t ask to know where you were.  I fucked up and there was no way that you would forgive me.  Babe, I know how you felt when I wouldn’t forgive you.  There are not enough words to say how sorry I am and I don’t blame you if you don’t forgive me,” Tina continued with a little more composure.

Bette jumped as the clocked chimed.  It was 11:00 p.m.  ”Oh, shit!” Bette exclaimed.  “I didn’t’ realize how late it is.  I’d better be going.”

“Bette, it’s late and you are in no condition to be driving.  Besides, the kids are staying, why don’t you stay the night.  You can take my bed and I’ll sleep on the couch,” Tina answered.

“You’re right, but I don’t want to put you out,” Bette retorted.  “I’ll sleep on the couch,” and Bette settled back down on the couch staring at her hands.

“Bette, are you all right?” Tina asked.

“You were right, T,” Bette answered.  “You did lose me forever.  I never expected to see you ever again.  I would have seen Angie at her graduation or if she wanted to see me before then, I would have made arrangements, but that was 15 years ago.  I’m not sure how I feel now.  You hired a private investigator?”

    1. Azmama…I think you get a sock full of coal…lol…Is it me or at the beginning of this story Bette seemed like she had a secret? She acted like she had somewhere to be…something to get to….could be just my imagination.

    2. I agree with Rau, 15 yrs. is long enough, let them wake up in the middle of the night and go to one another. As they said they have 5 children that want them together, NOW. Let it happen.

    3. 15 years is a helluva long time to carry a torch!!! but that’s our girls, what a hopeless bunch of romatics we are!!!get them in bed already!!!they’ve wasted enuff time… lmao…
