Lover never goes out of style – chapter one

Love never goes out of style

James stood at the foot of the steps leading to the Ann Porter Gallery.  He glanced up at the two-story modern steel building and let out a breath of air full of fear, relief and excitement.

Breathe James, you can do this.

Pulling the silver handle on the door to the gallery he was quickly met by a smiling young dark skinned woman about his age.

Woman: Hi welcome to the Ann Porter Gallery, my name is Janine. May I help you?

James: Actually I’m here to meet Ann Porter. I have an appointment with her about—

Janine listens she learns that his name is James she suddenly remembers that Ann had been expecting him for an interview.

Janine: Why yes. Ann has been waiting for your arrival, right this way.

Janine leads James to Ann’s office. James follows letting his eyes roam up and down the layout of the prestigious gallery. He was a bundle of nerves. He couldn’t believe he scored an interview with THE Ann Porter who was known widely with the who’s who in the art world.

Janine knocks on Ann’s door briefly waits a sec or two and opens it. She stood in the center of the doorway facing Ann. James stood behind her.

    Janine: Ann there’s a James—

She turns and signals with her eyes at James for his last name.

    James: Cook. It’s James Cook.

Janine: Yes there’s a James Cook here, I believe for an interview.

Not yet lifting her head from paper work she had sprawled out on her desk Ann lifts her hand and gestures her to allow him in.

Ann: Yes, let him right in.

Janine moves to the side allowing James to enter the office.

Okay time to make a good impression. He straightens up his tie.

    James: Good afternoon, ma’am.

James bows his head as if he is in the presence of the Queen of England.

Taken back by the woman’s beauty James stood there frozen, he didn’t know when, but the next thing he knew he was bowing. Oh my goodness she’s beautiful.  Remember you’re here for an assistant job. He shakes his head an attempt to rid thoughts.
