Matchmaker Alice challenge – I WILL SURVIVE
I WILL SURVIVE
“Come on guys you are like no help at all.” Alice declares. She’s sitting at her usual spot at The Planet. Bette, Tina, and Shane are still sitting around the table but each of them are getting ready to leave. Alice had already chased away Helena when she began asking for advice as to what her next radio show should have as a main theme. Ever since Alice had been moved to weekend late night hours she’s been trying to be more and more sensational. All she’s gotten her for her efforts are some cult repeat callers who seem to have scared away her prime audience. With her numbers dropping she was desperate to gain back her audience before the plug was pulled on her show.
“I can’t help it if you are lost when left to your own devices you …” Bette starts but is quickly followed by Shane.
“Yeah I mean did you really think you could get callers to have meaningful interactions with you when you play that techno wizard crap and only want to talk about psychic recollections.”
Bette and Tina both stifle their chuckles at Shane’s comments.
“All right maybe I shouldn’t have talked to that one chick from Eggelton. I mean how was I to know she would hex my show and all my callers because I laughed at her notion of the world coming to an end.” Alice defended herself.
Tina trying to help Alice through this asks, “What does your producer want you to do?”
“Nothing I’d ever want to do. He thinks if we come up with a seventies theme I’d be on safer ground. It just seems so lame to me.” Alice admits throwing her wadded up napkin into her spent coffee cup.
Tina sees Bette thinking with a smile on her face, “Oh I don’t know Alice. Look at the smile that’s on Bette’s face at the mention of the seventy’s and its music. What ya thinking about Babe?”
Bette looks at Tina and then down at the table before she starts talking but her smile never leaves her face. It’s a reminiscent smile of a memory sparked. “I was thinking of that song “I WILL SURVIVE” my mother and I used to sing it together.” Looking up at Alice she asks. “That was a seventies song wasn’t it?”

W hat an imaginative mind you have. Amazing scenario. It calls for a continuation of this story.
Very different and just perfect. Thank you for this.
BRAVO Jwet! Wow, what a most creative, different and enjoyable Alice matchmaker story! The power that music and song has in connecting us to one another as well as evoking strong memories and feelings is truly an amazing thing. Okay, and being a musician I’m a total sucker for pretty much all the songs you mentioned too :) I almost didn’t read this one.. so glad I did. And I’m actually good with you leaving the story where you did. It’s nice sometimes to let ones own imagination fill in the “rest of the story” instead of always having it spelled out. Thank you for sharing your story. Very heart-warming!
