    Chapter One

     

    “Don’t forget the deadline of your paper on the renaissance period it’s going to be on Monday okay? Alright class is dismiss!”

    It’s Friday and the last day of school and Bette couldn’t wait to go home and be with Jiego, her 5 yr old dog. Bette has been teaching History at McEnroe High School for seven years and she enjoyed every single day that she interacted with her students, whether past or present, for her educating those young minds was one of the greatest jobs in the world and for that she felt privileged.

    Sure the pay was not that much but she didn’t actually need it because she happened to have a lot. She inherited a big amount of money and several estates from her parents Melvin and Maxine Porter.

    The Porters had her in their later years, Melvin in his sixties and Maxine in her mid forties so when the couple passed away due to old age naturally Bette inherited everything.

    “Hey Bette are you done with your classes for today?” Alice her best friend and co teacher asked.

    “Yes and I know what you’re going to ask and the answer is no” Bette replied while putting her things inside her bag.

    “Oh c’mon Bette I’ve been dying to go to this new and only lesbian bar in this god forsaken town so please, please can we go tonight?” Alice pleaded.

    Bette and Alice had been the best of friends since they were little and both had been living in Shawnee, Kansas all their life. Bette turned her gaze to her friend and fixed her big black eye glass.

     “You know I don’t like going to those kinds of places, it’s noisy and I don’t even drink alcohol”

    “Its okay I’ll order anything but alcohol, I’ll buy anything you want, my treat just please say you’re coming” Alice said almost begging with her puppy eyes.

    I’m not in the mood to meet other people, why don’t you ask Shane I’m sure she’ll say yes right away especially if she hears that it’s gonna be your treat”

    Bette started to walk out of the classroom with her over sized bag and history books “hey Al are you just gonna sit there or what? I’m going to lock this room now”
