I woke the next morning wrapped up in Alice’s arms, however my discovery the night before was still on my mind and it was still troubling me. I had not slept well; my dreams were continuously plagued by images of Alice as a young girl, sitting on a cold tiled bathroom floor with a tear-stained face and a blood-stained razor blade in her hand. I would see Alice pull the sharp edge over her smooth pale skin, causing deep red blood to ooze from the wound. As soon as I saw the blood I woke with a start, my breathing heavy and sweat dripping down my hot forehead. This dream kept coming back to me every time I slept and I would always wake at the same time in the dream, before looking across at my sleeping girlfriend and, seeing that she was safe and in a peaceful slumber, I would fall back to sleep again. Every time I woke from this nightmare I snuggled back into Alice’s warm body, holding her tightly to me and not wanting to let go.

It was Alice’s birthday in two days and I wanted it to be special, it was the first time we had been together on one of our birthdays as more than friends and I especially wanted to make Alice happy after I had learnt about a whole new side of her.

I got up early to begin planning for Alice’s birthday, there were a lot of things for me to do and I wanted to keep them all a surprise. I slowly and carefully rolled Alice across the bed away from my body that she was nestled into closely so that I could get up. She stirred and groaned, causing me to pause to avoid waking her but luckily she rolled over and curled up into a tight ball, her eyes remaining firmly shut.

As I got up I couldn’t resist turning around to gaze back at her- she looked so cute and adorable sleeping. I smiled as I watched Alice and reached down to pull the sheet over her and plant a light kiss on her forehead. When I moved away I heard a loud snore come from her and I giggled- she didn’t look quite so sweet and innocent anymore.
