Mi Casa Es Su Casa. Chapter 4.
Tina’s Condo
Bette snuggled into Tina’s comfortable chair as she waited for Tina to bring the next bottle of wine. She stroked the chair fabric, wondering what it was (“chenille?”), and wondering why she had never seen a chair like this before.
“T, what kind of chair is this?” Bette called to Tina in the kitchen.
“It’s a chair and a half, Babe.”
Bette thought she should get one for her house.

Tina’s Condo
As months passed, every other Sunday night had become movie night. Tina would find an “important” film, but one she thought Bette would enjoy, and they would watch it, snuggled together in the chair and a half that Tina had bought, with hopes of someone with whom to share it, when she first furnished her condo. Tina would explain the film’s significance and occasionally comment during the film itself or alert Bette that a significant scene was about to start.
She was very impressed at how quickly Bette had become very knowledgeable about film history. For one Sunday, Tina’s movie choice had been made solely for Bette—it was not a film that she liked very much. Her self-sacrifice was rewarded when, during the opening credits The River, Bette turned to Tina and asked “Jean Renoir?” That night, Bette had often sat up in the armchair and gazed intently at the screen, marveling at the use of color or light or framing. Tina liked The River much more after seeing it through Bette’s eyes. Much later that night, she liked Bette even more when she asked, “T, the acting in that movie was really bad, right?’
Movie night had seemed like something they had just fallen into, but it wasn’t quite accidental. Since each was focused on her demanding career, they rarely managed to get together during the week. Friday night to Monday morning had become their time together, and Sunday nights were sometimes melancholy. However, spending the evening snuggled together in Tina’s chair greatly eased the bittersweet knowledge that their time together was coming to an end for another week.
Almost from the start, Tina would cook dinner on movie nights. Cooking kept them homebound and focused on one another. There was one time when Tina’s roommate plopped herself down on the couch, threw her feet up, and asked what they were watching. Tina grumbled the movie’s title, but it took only fifteen minutes for the roommate to detect the hostility emanating from the two usually friendly women, and she had retreated to her room. Now, if the roommate couldn’t find something to do or somewhere else to be, she would hide in her room on movie night.

ROFLMAO!!!!
That was so great! I asked my little sister (who notices/hears/sees everything better than I do, even though she had to be cajoled (read:threatened) into watching the show) not even a fortnight ago if she’d ever seen a tv in Bette&Tina’s living room and she said no. I just assumed Bette had put her foot down about that, and was yeah, something of a “cultural elitist” about it all… (they do exist! C’mon, we all know at least *one*, who’s above the whole tv thing.) but I wondered how a movie exec like Tina lived without the tube… I see she probably couldn’t! I love how Bette charmed the guys in the store, and Tina’s single-mindedness re: the Baba Wawa show. I’m waiting to see what you have in store for the final installment. Thanks for the post Spumoni, I really enjoyed it. Cheers!
I love Tina barking orders to Bette. So funny!
I absolutely loved reading this! It’s so great and refreshing!
C U T E!! A D O R A B L E!! TiBette are just too good together! Thanks for wonderfully filling in the blanks. I love it! The whole TeeVee thing was Hilarious. LOL. Please continue. Its Very Enjoyable! :)
” See!!! Huh!!! See!!! ” Yes, dear Spumoni, we see,… and we’d like to see more. ;-)
Spumoni don’t feel that you are the only one that has not learned those lessons, most of the time I forget that I once learned them. Great chapter and I love an alpha woman and a woman of action. they proved both of those attributes with this chapter. PPS
Incredible chapter love how they buy the tv,lol. using the ol’ porter charm, lol… omg they are so good for each other…
How cute. Kind of like Alce and Dana only cuter. Great writing – keep those chapters comming:-)
Excellent!!! It made me think of, and this is really said as a compliment, one of Jobadge’s situations… Very funny and clever chapter! It sounds like a real life story… Has something like this ever happened to you? I just loved how Bette handled the whole thing… Always the smart one, and Tina’s savior, but that’s a given! Very nice chapter. And you’re right, even though I can totally understand it, it always strikes me when I go to someone’s place and they don’t have a TV. And like Tina, I always think it might be in a cupboard somewhere…
LMAO!!! This was a funny chapter. Now that I think about it, I don’t remember them ever showing a TV on the show. Surely, Tina being a movie exec, would need a tube somewhere in the house. Great post!!! PPS
this was hilarious and this is so true, there’s no TV in B&T’s house LOL thank you, this was so refreshing…(and yes, it’s moi and i enjoy bringing B&T news to the fans, thank you)
Very very fun and funny chapter.
That was hilarious. Bette would not do real well in most homes in the US. I laught when Bette was trying to take the tv out of the box. The way things are boxed now a days, it would take more time trying to get it out then it would to set it up.
I loved that. Thx for poiting out the alphaness of Ms Kennard b4 she left being Head of Development. No wonder she went under playing the housewifey role. She really can multitask and being the stay at home little woman clearly did not suit her…which also explains her exasperation when Bette refused to take the citibank or any other job. Tina just did what a mother has to do, she compromised with the pump, got out there and paid the mortgage. Plus I never noticed the whole wearing the same clothes at the opening and the dinner; somehow they merged as the one event in my head. OMG I best go watch the whole series again. In fact s3 is playing here and that was so unbearable that I’m not watching just taping it, I’m a sook when it comes to pain. Thx for the shout out about HERE I AM. I wish I could be more disciplined with my writing like some people on the site. Oh yeah I have a friend who is a ‘cultural elitist’ with less right to be than Bette; She cracks me up, for 5 years I have been on at her to get a microwave but no!! Then she persuads me to go to MacDonalds for ‘Pancake Delight’ breakfast and I cracked up laughing so loud because of course they zap the pancakes in a microwave. Some people are so precious and so blind. I think Bette was quite a bit like that thru’out the series. God I hope she changes in s5. I find Tina so much more down to earth, so naturally flawed that I can see where she comes from most of the time whereas Bette as much as I love her I want to shout ‘F…wake up!!!!’…PPS
what is ‘corn pudding’ and do u have a recipe. Corn is grown where I live and we have a pudding with corn but don’t know if anyone else would like it. It’s an acquired taste but I’m up for trying something different.
Bette and the missing TV, I always thought that it would be in a cabinet in her living room, but in the otherhand I could see Bette not really bothering with one as I see her more as a reading person not someone who would sit in front of a TV. Tina , its part of her job description and I think a large percentage of her working day and her own time would be sitting in front of the google box. Corn pudding had to google this to see what it was reminds me of rice pudding, comfort food. You gave a shout out to Mrs Williamson remember her from way back in your stories. Love these fill in chapters. Thank you.
