My One Special One – Chapter 24

Why am I so nervous…it’s a long ago forgotten episode.  Well, maybe long ago but certainly not forgotten.

“This is certainly a surprise, Ann.”

“A pleasant surprise I hope.” Ann said quietly.  “I hope I’m not disturbing you.”

“Not at all.  I heard that your husband had died.  I just didn’t think it right to call you, Ann.  I apologize for that.”

“No need to apologize.  I understood then why it would have been difficult for you.  Listen, I let a lot of years go by without making any contact at all with you. I couldn’t.  I made my choice.  And now, I realize the years go by way too quickly.  Then was then and this is now.  I don’t want to waste any more time on regret….look, do you think we could have lunch and just be two friends catching up on things?”

“Ann, you broke my heart but I never stopped…I never stopped – Sure, let’s catch up, old friend.”

Ann laughed and made like she didn’t hear the unfinished sentence.  “Hey, watch who you’re calling old.  How about sometime next week or is the weekend better?”

“Well, if we make it on a Sunday, we could do brunch and spend a couple hours without the intrusion of me having to rush back to court or to the office.  I always needed to rush to get to some office, wasn’t I?  At least I’ve got an associate I call in now and then to handle the overflow – not that he’s around all that much but it helps.”

“Yes, you were always a workaholic, but that’s why you’re in the position you’re in now.  So great, how about this Sunday?  I’ll call tomorrow with the time and place.”

“Sounds good.  If I’m not here, just leave the message with Chris. See you then, kiddo.”

Ann hung up the phone but kept her hand on the receiver just staring at it.  These were two possibly life changing phone calls.  My Tina…I couldn’t lose her because of my stupidity.  I had to make things right with her before I could begin to make things right with myself.

That’s what led to the second phone call.

She never thought she would make this particular call, even after her husband had died, because she knew how angry he had been about the whole thing.  The problem was he was always angry – about everything.  Right from the beginning she saw and learned first hand what an angry man he was.  Ann’s problem was she thought it would get better with time.

Tina had been right.  Her husband had never made her happy.  But he had made her pregnant so she vowed to end the affair and devote her life to raising her family.   She filed the love away in her mind and heart; then tossed the key that would unlock those memories into the trash can of regret and missed chances. She would gather her happiness from the smiles of her children.

Now the phone call had been made and they would meet again.

Ann allowed her mind to finish the attempted confession from just a few moments ago…

I know I broke your heart but throughout these long, lonely years I, too, never forgot – and I never stopped loving you either.

    1. Yes, Yes, Yes, when I read this at work this morning, I could not post a comment. Yes, her mother had fallen for a woman too in her younger years, and her name is Chris, (so is that where Tina gets her name) and that is why she freaked out when Tina told her about Bette. So happy they’ve made up.No please post soon and bring on the rest of the story. And please do not let anything happen to Tina. Catch the bad guys before they hurt our precious girl. Love this story and always happy to see you post again.Thank you.

    2. Awesome chapter…I agree with Honda…I think it’s a woman…either it’s a woman or the person she was talking to is like Tina’s real father or something like that….but I am leaning towards it being a woman. Show no shame Ann…do the damn thing.

    3. Uh-huh, guys! Chris is the secretary!… But I think, no I hope that indeed, that mysterious old friend is a woman… Would make things quite interesting. Could also be a man, but i don’t think he would be Tina’s real father as you said that she ended the affair cause her husband got her pregnant… Oooooh, so exciting! This story (like all your stories) is just brillant, I love the way you mix some scary intrigue with the personal storyline… makes it like a big great novel!!! You’re such a talented writer. Thank you so much for sharing!

    4. I wonder who Anne Kennard is in love with and let go all those years ago. Tina is so in love with Bette and working hard towards sharing their life together. Great chapter.

    5. Damn Thats hot. This is good and good that Tinas mom call and work thing out. I think Tinas mom in love with is a woman and can’t wait to see they meet again. Ok post

    6. Another great post, thank you :o)) So Anns little secret/affair – is it a man or woman, I noticed you didn’t tell in the post LOL. Post as soon as possible…

    7. “Fuck the coffee…” Funny Tina should say that while getting it on with Bette. *snicker* So Tina’s mom has a little secret of her own, huh? I think I suspected that several chapters ago. Thanks for a relatively drama-free chapter. =)

    8. Hey Arcextl, Am loving this tale. It was wonderful to see Tina’s mom backtrack and admit the error of her ways and apologize to her daughter. Sweet love and a warm wack up call was perfect as Bette and Tina make an awesome couple and fall deeper and deeper in love and contentment with one another. Grinned the whole way through the rest of this chapter. Thank you so much for this afternoon pleasure. Your Loyal Fan. PS – Great to see that Tina’s mom has a few tricks up her sleeve and could Tina be named after another Chris.
